Hi – I am Laura, and I run the Monkey Music classes here in Lewes, Uckfield, Crowborough, Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill. With my team of wonderful teachers, we offer award-winning music classes for babies and young children in your local area.
We launched our classes here in 2012 and run Monkey Music five days a week across East and West Sussex with a view to open new venues in the near future. Each of our venues are centrally located in each town, they are buggy accessible and have nearby parking for those travelling by car.
Our age-specific classes are designed to nurture a child's innate love of music, to educate and to entertain. Specialist teachers use catchy music, colourful props and percussion instruments to engage the children, with lots of opportunities for them to experiment with the instruments and make music of their own.
We have welcomed many little monkeys and their grown-ups since opening in 2012 and hope to welcome you to a class near you soon!
Popular local Children’s Activities in East Sussex and West Sussex; Lewes, Uckfield, Crowborough,Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill
Groups are small with children grouped according to age; Rock 'n' Roll (3 months to 1 year), Heigh-Ho (1 and 2 years), Jiggety-Jig (2 and 3 years) and Ding-Dong (3 and 4 years). Each half hour class is packed with entertaining and educational songs tailored to the age group. A combination of highly trained teachers, quality percussion instruments and a wonderfully written progressive curriculum make each class special.
I am a classically trained musician in voice, piano and clarinet and have a Performing Arts degree. Whilst teaching I have seen how children have developed their social skills and gained in confidence. I get a huge amount of joy out of watching the children that I teach grow as little people, all through the magic of music.
Our Musical Story
Monkey Music was founded by Angie Coates in 1993 in nurseries, kindergartens and venues across Greater London. As the classes had grown in popularity Monkey Music was franchised. As well as classes here in Lewes, Uckfield, Crowborough, Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill there are classes running in over 300 other venues across Great Britain, with over 50 franchises. Today, over 11,000 babies and young children visit Monkey Music every week.
Monkey Music Lewes, Uckfield, Crowborough,Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill draws babies and children in from all across East and West Sussex. Over the years Monkey Music has been nominated for and won several prominent awards including Best National Pre-Schooler Development Activity Award and the Best National Toddler Development Class. I have personally won the ‘Emerging Franchisee of the Year’ in 2015.
Music Groups and Learning
The ear is the first organ to develop fully in the womb, enabling babies to take comfort in the music of their mother's voice at just 11 weeks. All children are born with instinctive musicality but only if this is encouraged early enough will a child fulfil their full musical potential.
The benefits of music for very young children, particularly when taught within a group, go much deeper than this. Early exposure to singing, listening to and playing music can sharpen up a whole range of educational skills. Language and numerical skills flourish through action songs and rhymes; fine motor skills are refined through playing hand held percussion instruments, while an awareness of space and one another is developed through movement. The children's confidence and self-esteem grows rapidly as their involvement in the group increases.
For young children in particular, music can be extremely valuable in enhancing personal, social and educational development. It's important, therefore, for parents to encourage their children's budding interest in music.
Monkey Music and Parents
It is not just our little monkeys who get so much out of our classes. We are always being told by our grown-ups (mums, dads, grandparents, nannies and childminders) just how much they enjoy Monkey Music. Often our classes have been described as the ‘highlight of the week’. Many people talk of making friends at classes that continue to be friends as their children grow up. With catchy songs, well thought out musical activities and games there is fun for all the family.
There are of course a number of other activities and playgroups available for babies, toddlers, pre-school children of all ages in Lewes, Uckfield, Crowborough, Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill from music groups and singing lessons to dance classes and gymnastics. There is so much choice, but we can assure you with the reputation that Monkey Music has built over more than 20 years, there is nothing of such high quality on offer to your baby, toddler or pre-schooler. The curriculum is tried and tested and with such highly skilled teachers and wonderful resources Monkey Music is second to none.
To find out more about our regular weekly classes, holiday workshops, event and party opportunities, then do get in touch. We look forward to telling you more, introducing you to our team, our teachers and other little monkeys and grown-ups across Lewes, Uckfield, Crowborough, Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill!
