At Monkey Music we embrace the strength, resilience, and individuality of women from…
I have been running Monkey Music Clapham and Battersea since 1999. As a qualified English teacher and classically trained musician, I love singing and playing my flute and piano. Music has always been central to my life both professionally and at home. I believe there is no better way to introduce learning than through music.
Read more...I started Monkey Music in Clapham and Battersea over twenty years ago because I was looking for a way to use my advanced musical skills as a trained singer along with my teaching qualification. Having recently had my first child I was also looking for a new opportunity and change of direction. At the time I was attending Monkey Music as a parent with Rebecca Maskell who still runs a couple of areas in South East London, where I live. I was very inspired by the effect the classes had on my daughter, how she responded so positively to the music and how it clearly aided her early years of development.
When the opportunity arose to start a franchise area I jumped at it as a way of bringing together all my experience and skills. Also, the opportunity to run my own business was really exciting and fulfilled a long-held dream. I have loved and continue to love this journey.
Monkey Music has radically changed during the time I have been running classes and where and how I deliver the classes has altered too. For example, when I started we did not offer our Rock’n’Roll classes for babies and this development has proved to be a huge success allowing very young families to make friends and experience music in a more sensual, nurturing and calm way. Despite the many changes, at its core, Monkey Music is about children, music and education and this has stayed true and strong. For me, this is why Monkey Music has remained so popular and respected.
More and more I am handing the teaching over to my wonderful team of experienced, young and energetic teachers who bring huge enthusiasm and skill to their classes. I really enjoy training, mentoring and watching them develop and become strong independent teachers. Please do go to their individual biographies to find out more about them.
I hope we see you and your children soon and you receive from us the joy and magic myself and both my children enjoyed all those years ago.

Just as language skills are developed early in life, so is musical talent. Regardless of the level of music aptitude with which children are born, they must have formal and informal experiences in music to maintain that level of potential.
