My name is Mandy Kitching and I run Monkey Music classes in Cardiff. Having enjoyed Monkey Music with my own family, I decided to run my own franchise when making a career change. I am supported by a talented team of teachers who are passionate about singing and teaching and dedicated to making their classes the highlight of the week for families across Cardiff.
We offer a range of activities individually tailored for each age group. By singing songs, using actions and engaging with colourful props and resources, each child builds confidence, improves their vocabulary and coordination and learning vital life skills. Our classes encourage positive communication between parent and child, as well as nurturing a lifetime love of music.
Monkey’s Musical History
Monkey Music was created by Monkey Music’s founder and Managing Director, Angie Coates, a Guildhall School of Music and Drama graduate who saw an opening for an educational and fun music class for families. She opened the first classes at kindergartens and nurseries in London in 1993 and in 1998, the much loved children’s music activities had gained in popularity and the company was franchised. In addition to Cardiff, there are over 50 Monkey Music musical activity franchises currently running across the UK in over 300 church halls, kindergartens and nurseries.
Monkey Music classes have been running in Cardiff since 2005 and from then on, parents, toddlers and babies have looked forward to learning at our weekly classes with glee and enthusiasm.
Our specially trained music and preschool teachers are picked for their natural musical talent and their ability to communicate with babies and toddlers and their family and carers. They nurture each child’s social and musical skills in an environment that is fun and stimulating while encouraging learning and a love of singing songs and music.
There are several classes running across Cardiff so that your local Monkey Music group is only a short distance from you. If you’re looking for fun and stimulating children’s music activities with venues in Radyr, Chapter in Canton, Gabalfa, Penylan and Cyncoed, you’ve come to the right place.
Award Winning Children’s Music Activities in Cardiff
Monkey Music has been nominated for several mother and baby awards including the Best National Pre-Schooler Development Activity Award and the Best National Toddler Development Class.
Thousands of families every week attend Monkey Music classes around the country and Monkey Music has become a rite of passage for many nursery age children starting their musical journey through life.
What’s it all about?
Our specially written curriculum and resources have been developed and honed over a number of years. Monkey Music Cardiff’s teachers cater for pre-school and nursery age children from 3 months old to four years old, teaching them in small groups appropriate for their age and development. Our baby and toddler music activities make full use of each 30 minute class with a combination of songs, percussion instruments, rhymes, drums, bells, dancing and sensory props combined with lots of energy! Our pre-school music activities include lots of resources for each child to make music with percussion instruments and musical resources and to explore their learning environment.
Monkey Music Cardiff’s unique musical activity curriculum includes over three hundred traditional and original songs, musical games, rhymes and movement with each baby and child learning in small groups according to their age and development.
Music and Baby Development
Babies ears are the first organ to develop in the womb and at 5 months an unborn baby will be able to hear the world around them. Unborn babies take great comfort in parental voices and they will remember music and songs that they have heard in the womb for up to 12 months after they have been born.
Research has found that exposure to music and songs early in life supports a child in almost all areas of development. Babies who attend a musical class showed improved memory, smiling more and have better communication skills. Listening to and performing music and rhymes improves phonetic awareness, which develops language and literacy ability. Babies develop fine motor skills and physical coordination through playing hand held percussion resources which supports handwriting skills. A child’s involvement in musical learning in a group increases their self esteem and has a positive impact on their confidence.
Monkey Music and your Family
Parents often tell us that Monkey Music classes in Cardiff (Chapter in Canton, Radyr, Gabalfa, Penylan and Cyncoed) is a highlight of the family’s week. Not only do babies and toddlers enjoy learning at our classes but also Parents, Grandparents, and carers enjoy singing too. Our class experience extends beyond the classes with catchy songs that can be listened to at homeor in the car and shared with extended family members. In addition to each child benefiting from the musical aspect and learning of our classes, it is often a special time for parental attention without the distraction of everyday life. Unlike nursery and kindergarten, our musical activities are shared between babies and parents and form an integral part of their child’s early years.
Families often gain from the social side of our music classes as many of our venues have cafes on-site or nearby. Many lasting friendships have been formed at Monkey Music Cardiff’s pre-school classes.
