How do you know Monkey Music is the right children’s activity for you and your child?

Choosing a music class for your baby, toddler or child is an important decision. At Monkey Music we feel very privileged to teach your children from baby through toddler to preschool. Embracing their development along the way. Our classes are grouped according to age ensuring a good fit for all. Let me share some of the background of classes here at Monkey Music Cardiff.

My name is Emma and I have been owner of Monkey Music Cardiff since September 2017. Although I am new to Monkey Music Cardiff I am not new to Monkey music, having ran the very successful classes at Monkey Music Vale & Bridgend since 2008. I continue to run both areas bringing the fantastic Monkey Music curriculum to hundreds of families across a large area of South Wales.

I first became familiar with Monkey Music pre-school classes in 2007 when I attended classes with my first daughter, Maddison, as a baby. There were no other classes that could provide a tailored and structured curriculum especially for my baby that met her developmental needs at each stage. Her little face when she saw the instruments, the other babies in the class and the immediate engagement with the teacher made me sure Monkey Music was the best possible introduction for her. I have a very strong background in music and teaching myself which led me to consider preschool music activities as soon as she was born. In the past there had been a lack of high standard children’s musical activities in the area and it was very important to me to find the right musical class for her.

The award-winning Monkey Music curriculum is at the heart of our classes. Delivered by trained Monkey Music teachers supported by high quality instruments, resources and props. Every class is a performance for your little one with live singing from our highly skilled teachers. Everyone is encouraged to participate in class, joining in with the songs isn’t hard- it’s quite infectious! Parents, grandparents and carers of Monkey Music are often seen humming the songs around the supermarket!

Music plays an important role in the early development of a child. Children are natural, instinctive music makers. As parents, we naturally try to use music to sooth and calm children. Research has shown that music can aid all areas of child development. At Monkey Music, our curriculum uses songs and activities that are carefully selected for each developmental stage. Learning to move to music, explore sounds and props given to them, socialise with other babies and families, communicate effectively, develop their fine and gross motor skills through playing and dancing to music, singing, listening to themselves and others, strengthening their memory and recall skills- the benefits of music are enormous and develop at each stage which is why our classes are grouped according to age, ensuring a ‘good fit’ for your child. A range of activities are sued to stimulate and educate your baby through to child at every stage. We teach children the structure of our classes right from the very first stage, starting with the first of our four age groups- Rock ‘n’ Roll.

Rock ‘n’ Roll- For babies from 3 months. Our classes are very instrument and sensory focused in this age group. Your baby is educated about the environment around them through the themed curriculum. We use a specialist kit with sensory props and special instruments designed to be played by the tiniest of hands. That first ‘shake’ is a momentous occasion! Songs about daily activities communicate an understanding of everyday life to your baby. It doesn’t take long before they start recognising a melody, even before they understand words. Babies can mimic sounds and move to the music, feeling pulse through their bodies. Their eyes light up at the sensory wow factor. During sleep time, baby is soothed with magical lullabies, sounds and bubbles.

Heigh-Ho- For toddlers to 2 years. Busy toddlers are kept entertained with energetic activities that stretch their development. Toddlers love to dance and move so it’s time to find our feet, singing and dancing and copying actions. Playing is developed with the introduction of beaters and contrasting sounds. Relevant themes encourage your toddler to begin communicating with you. Repetition of songs encourages memory and recall. Toddlers love to laugh and the dramatic deliver of the classes ensures there is plenty of laughter. Their gross motor skills can be developed with activities such as clapping rhythms and dancing to a beat with props.

Jiggety-Jig- For our 2 & 3 year olds. Musical activities are explored in greater detail. The children are becoming more independent of their parents but everyone is still encouraged to sing and play along. Our children are now displaying a range of musical skill on a variety of instruments and even beginning to compose their own music. Pre-schoolers aren’t self-conscious about their ability and so sing as loud as they can which is fully embraced. Songs and activities about number and language develop essential language skills.

Ding-Dong- For 3 & 4 year olds. Children at this stage can read music and explore the instruments of the orchestra. The children are encouraged to be independent of their carer to prepare them for nursery school or kindergarten. They compose, listen and sing on their own and in groups. They like to express what they do and don’t like and appreciate a range of musical genres. They play musical instruments sensitively and follow instructions with care, performing with confidence and taking turns.

Remember, Monkey Music Cardiff offers babies and toddlers music classes throughout the area of Cardiff including Radyr, Llandaff, Canton, Lisvane, Whitchurch, Cyncoed, Roath and Canton.

Your first class is complimentary so you can experience Monkey Music with your child for yourself to help you make that all important decision about which children’s activity is best suited for your child. If you are unsure what stage class your child needs or have any questions please do contact us. Monkey Music Cardiff also provides parties, holiday workshops and visits nurseries and community settings.
