Hello, Monkey Music offers action-packed 30 minute weekly music classes. Monkey Music classes are fun, interactive, stimulating and support your child’s development. Each of the four levels of Monkey Music is designed around the interests and capabilities of the specific age groups. Classes combine traditional nursery rhymes and original Monkey Music songs. We use a wide variety of colourful props and teaching resources to create a lovely environment for fun & learning. Eloise and Alex are a husband and wife team with 3 young children and Alex has a background as a teacher and actor and in 2012 he was awarded "Most Outstanding Activity Leader for Under 5's - South" in the National WO4LO awards & he heads up a team of teachers made up of talented professional musicians and actors. Book your FREE class and join the fun!

Where can I find Monkey Music classes?

We offer classes in Notting Hill Gate (W8), Westbourne Grove (W11), Westbourne Park Road (W2), Portobello Road (W11), Kensington High Street (W8), Whole Foods Kensington (W8), the Kensington Library (W8), Earl’s Court (W8) and Holland Park (W14).

Do I have to join for the full term?

You can join at any point in the term (and only pay for the classes left in the term). The Monkey Music musical programme is progressive and the idea is that the babies, toddlers and children build on what they're doing from week to week. They also start to recognise their teacher and get to know the songs and activities. The more familiar they are with the content the more they engage with it. This in turn builds their confidence and self-esteem and they are able to concentrate longer, enjoy the class better and learn more easily. Also, regular attendance means that everyone in the class gets to know each other which makes for a more fun and settled class environment. We welcome many families back term after term and year after year and we are very flattered to frequently be told that the class is the highlight of the week for both grown ups and their little monkeys.

What do the different levels mean?

Each curriculum level has been specifically written and refined to support your child’s development at four specific stages and follows the Early Years Foundation Stages (EYFS) recommended for babies and for children attending nursery, kindergarten and pre-school.

Rock’n’Roll  music classes for babies from 3 months

In the Rock'n'Roll classes, we aim to pave the way for your child’s future emotional and intellectual development with:

  • a stimulating musical environment
  • gentle songs,  and fascinating sounds
  • a broad range of musical instruments, resources and props designed to stimulates

 babies

  • absorbing activities and precious shared moments
  • ideas for fun activities to do at home with the  child and the whole family

Heigh-Ho music classes for toddlers from 12 months

In the Heigh-Ho classes we are working hard to extend the children’s ability to concentrate and we also aim to:

  • support early language development & stimulate visual memory
  • help strengthen neural bridges which are necessary for later learning
  • encourage the toddlers to practise fine motor skills during engaging musical activities
  • encourage toddlers’ self-awareness and self-discipline
  • develop learning and listening skills useful for nursery, kindergarten & pre-school

Jiggety-Jig music classes for 2 & 3 year olds

In the Jiggety-Jig classes for older toddlers the children start to be able to engage with more concentrated activities

  • support early language development & stimulate visual memory
  • develop children's imagination & build self-confidence with 'pretending'
  • help the children learn important lessons about boundaries
  • encourage the delicate art of sharing
  • place a greater emphasis on the social skills required for nursery, kindergarten or pre school
  • help the children begin to compose their own music by taking turns
  • encourage parental involvement at home by setting very simple show and tell style homework

Ding- Dong music classes for 3 & 4 year olds

In Ding-Dong the children are now ready to learn to read music! Many children who have started to attend nursery, kindergarten or pre school continue with their musical programme at Monkey Music. The children are learning about the basics of early notation and about the different sections of the orchestra. The resources we use for this level include graphic notation and tuned percussion instruments. We encourage more parental involvement at home as children start to compose their own very simple pieces of music.

How do I book?

You can call, email or fill out our web form to book a complimentary music class. Once you have attended your complimentary class, you will receive an email inviting you to join for however many classes are left in the term, plus a one-off membership fee (cost may vary & limited promotions may apply). Each class costs £11 and you pay for however many classes are left in the term after your free class. You can pay by cheque, by card over the phone or by internet banking (BACS).

What happpens in class?

The fun in class is underpinned by a structured curriculum and the lesson
plans follow age-specific learning objectives. The lessons evolve every week
and the children build on what they learn from week to week. Different
topics are explored every few weeks every week using different resources, music and props . In each class there will be singing, a movement section & the children will play a selection of real percussion instruments.

Why is Monkey Music different?
Monkey Music is an established pre school music group which has been running for over 21 years! The Monkey Music curriculum has been developed, refined and updated over the last two decades so all of the songs and activities have been tried and tested by thousands of babies, toddlers and children. We have professionally recorded backing tracks for all of our songs and these comprise of traditional nursery rhymes and over
300 original songs written by well-known composers. In addition to this our
classes are highly interactive and our children learn to make music on the
finest percussion instruments! This means the children are engaging with musical activities that are
tailored to their stage of development. Whilst they are having fun, the children will be working on their memory skills, their co-ordination, their vocabulary, their co-ordination and social skills. We also aim to teach them the all-important art of concentration! All Monkey Music teachers are trained according to Monkey Music’s training programme and then mentored by Alex who was named Most Outstanding Activity Leader for Under 5’s– South in the 2012 WO4LO Awards (voted for by parents across the UK).

Your involvement in the class
It goes without saying that the children are relying on the involvement of parents, grandparents and nannies to lead them through the class both physically and emotionally. Monkey Music is very much a family activity! The more you get involved in the class and help and encourage your little one to begin to copy you and
join in the instructions from our teachers the more you will both gain
from the experience. Many lifelong friendships are made in our classes for
both parents and children too and we are always getting feedback from grown
ups who say they enjoy it just as much as the little ones! Many families attend for many years with different siblings and they often tell us how much they enjoy hearing the songs again!
