Welcome to Monkey Music in south west Cornwall! I am delighted to have introduced Monkey Music to this part of Cornwall. For many years I ran Monkey Music in Cardiff where I welcomed lots of little monkeys into classes and thoroughly enjoyed watching them grow and develop musically. After the birth of my second daughter we moved to Cornwall and I started teaching Monkey Music here. Since I first saw classes in action many years ago now, I have been continually impressed by all aspects of Monkey Music. The classes are fun as well as being educational. Having taken my own children to classes, it is the educational aspect that really excites me. My six year old progressed through all the classes, all the way to Ding dong and in these classes it was fantastic to see her starting to understand pitch and notation and learn the different sounds and names of orchestral instruments. She sings all the time and really enjoys playing all the different percussion instruments. There is a good balance between songs you know and new material, and with the classes being fast moving and varied, there is no time for anyone to get bored! The Rock ‘n’ roll curriculum was launched a couple of years ago and I took my second daughter from a very early age. This gentle curriculum combines traditional nursery rhymes with original music accompanied by some unusual percussion instruments. Classes are very friendly and it’s a good place to meet new friends. I have found that it is in these first few months that you particularly need that support. I have just had a third baby girl and last term she started her own Rock'n'roll classes. We have really enjoyed starting that musical journey once again. I am still surprised by how much she watches, listens and just loves coming to the classes, smiling throughout. Having taught, you'd think I'd be used to the effect of the classes by now! Having grown up in a large musical family and gone on to study music at university, I greatly believe that the earlier you start learning music the better and, through teaching, have seen how much music can help with a child’s development. I love seeing the enjoyment that children get from music and I am very keen to make their early musical experiences as fun and memorable as possible. Next term Traci Watts and I will run the classes between us. Traci has a strong musical background, a beautiful singing voice along with boundless energy and enthusiasm for Monkey Music. Her classes are very popular and I am thrilled to have welcomed her to the team. Classes are currently running in Penryn at the Zed Shed, Jubilee Wharf, Truro at the beautiful refurbished meeting room in Truro Community Library, in Chacewater at the Village Hall and next term we're delighted to be opening in Ladock Village Hall - which will hopefully be nearer for those from the St. Austell area. All are lovely venues, and there is a cafe at both the Truro and Penryn venues. For details of classes and times, see below. If you would like to come along for a complimentary class at any point in the term, please get in touch. Call Alice Browning on 01872 276766 or e-mail: alice.browning@monkeymusic.co.uk.
