Welcome to Monkey Music Uxbridge, Harrow and Edgware.
My name is Kathryn Burrows, and after taking a music degree at Trinity College of Music I went on to study as a post graduate at the Royal College of Music and Boston University (Tanglewood Institute) in the USA. I then worked for several years as a professional flautist, playing with orchestras including the London Philharmonic and touring with companies such as Moscow City Ballet, the Bolshoi Ballet and Australian Ballet. Always interested in music education, I taught flute and piano at all levels and was for eight years an examiner for the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. In 1998 I was appointed to the panel of mentors for students studying for the Certificate of Teaching of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
I have always been a keen dancer and have appeared several times on TV. During my teens, I was privileged to learn with "Strictly Come Dancing" judge, Len Goodman.
And so to Monkey Music! Once I had children of my own I found it difficult to manage the late nights and long journeys that are so much part of a musician's lifestyle. Claire Slade, who runs classes in the Kew area had been a colleague of mine for some years, and in 1999 I took my three year old daughter to one of her classes. I was highly impressed by the quality of the curriculum, the resources available, and the professional presentation of the class, so much so that I immediately enquired into running my own area! Since my son was only six weeks old at that time it took me a while to get organised, but I was delighted to open Monkey Music Uxbridge, Harrow and Edgware in September 2000.
Demand for Monkey Music has continued to grow and I have been extremely fortunate to recruit Karen Bonnamy, the amazing singing nursery nurse, to teach for me. Teaching at several venues and much in demand as a "party lady", Karen finds Monkey Music every bit as rewarding as I do. We love seeing the children blossom and grow in confidence. The fabulous Monkey Music curriculum allows optimum musical and social benefit whilst being packed with so much fun that the lessons just whizz by.
Please do get in touch to organise a complimentary class. A warm welcome awaits you.

News

I can't believe that this year I am celebrating 10 whole years of teaching Monkey Music! During this time I have taught about 2,500 children - which makes it very special when I bump into a teenager whose musical life started with Monkey Music.

As a professional musician, I remain convinced that our structured and progressive curriculum is second to none when it comes to giving children the best musical start to life. Of course not everyone goes on to be a 'serious' musician, but I am often contacted by parents who tell me that music and the performing arts are still very much an enriching part of their child's life. Above all, both carers and children have fond memories of all the fun times they had at Monkey Music.

This term we are so excited to be opening classes at the brand new Hillingdon Sports & Leisure Complex in Gatting Way, Uxbridge. There is ample parking and public transport nearby. Our teaching room is lovely, with a waiting area and buggy space. OJs cafe is open for coffee or lunch, so you can socialise and feed your little one (and yourself!) in comfort. You might even want to combine your Monkey Music class with a visit to the pool, gym or creche!

The Leisure Complex are so happy to have Monkey Music there that, from September, they will be waiving their £20.00 joining fee for all fully paid up Monkey Music attendees. If you are already a member, then you will be entitled to claim free Monkey Music membership as part of our reciprocal agreement.
