Hi, I am Becca I live in Guildford, and have 2 children. Music is my passion and career. I have a degree in music specializing in voice and piano, which lead to a  wonderful career working with various opera companies, seeing the world while singing, and having  amazing musical adventures. I am kept busy, bringing up my two wonderful children Isabella and Barnaby, running Monkey Music in Guildford, Godalming and Shalford. Squeezing in concerts where I can.

I first discovered Monkey Music in London, where my fellow musician friends told me it was. ‘ A proper class, run for musicians, by musicians’ We fell in love with Monkey, I was so excited to find a class that wove together music making, child development and social interaction, in a fun environment. I thoroughly enjoyed taking my own children to Monkey Music who went through the whole curricula from 3 months to school age. I’m convinced it has meant they have a strong grounding musically and educationally from it. I was excited to take over classes in the Guildford area. It is a privilege and joy to watch and aid children develop. I have shared many firsts with my grown ups and their little ones in class. First steps, first words. Learning to develop concentration skills, social and physical skills. Gaining confidence in a caring, nurturing and most importantly, fun environment. Monkey Music is fantastic as our children grow musically and developmentally without realising we are actually stretching them, and forging new neural pathways.

Choosing a class for your baby or child is an important decision. Monkey Music takes your child on a developmental journey from the age of 12 weeks to 4 years and have lots of fun along the way. The heart of our classes is the music and sharing our love of quality music making. We can’t wait to share this with you and your child! Classes are taught by our much loved, expertly trained, fun, passionate and hugely inspiring teachers. All vocals are live and a pleasure to listen to for child and grown up.

The Monkey Music curriculum has over 500 original songs purpose written to aid your child’s stage of development. Each week we include a blend of Monkey Music songs, and well known children’s classics. We use actions, real instruments (not toys) and colourful items and props to focus on three main areas of your child’s development – their Social, Language and Physical skills.

Did you know that the ear is the first organ to develop fully in the womb, enabling babies to take comfort in  their mother’s voice and heart beat. Once born, babies are captivated by the sounds around them, tracking sounds with their ears and eyes. Babies love feeling the rhythm and creating their own sounds with our hand held instruments. These also help co-ordination and understanding cause and effect. Studies have proven that babies exposed to music classes at an early age go on to do better in English, Math and Languages - as understanding and predicting rhythms and patterns are the key to future learning! Our Rock’n’Roll classes have been developed specifically for babies from 12 weeks. During the first magical year, we focus on introducing new sounds with gentle songs, rhythms and sensory experiences encouraging lots of carer and baby interaction.

Once children are up on their feet they progress to one of our Heigh-Ho classes for toddlers from 12 months. These classes are purposely fast paced, interactive and visually stimulating. we focus on developing both language and listening skills. Our fun songs link actions to words, which help with their early words and language. Unusual sounds, rhymes and stories through song help develop listening skills and the children are encouraged to respond to the music they hear. By playing our quality instruments children develop both fine and gross motor skills and start to learn and recognize musical pitch (high and low), dynamics (loud and quiet), rests (Shhh) and tempo (fast and slow).Musicality and spatial awareness are explored with our movement sections. The whole class is 30 minutes of fast paced fun and learning.

In Jiggety-Jig, our classes for 2 and 3 year olds, the little ones really add to their musical foundation with lots of singing. We encourage them to find their independence and confidence and look, listen and respond to the teacher’s instruction – all key skills for when they start pre-school or nursery. We encourage sharing with their peers and turn taking - brilliant for developing social skills and interaction and encourage refined listening and responding, whilst continuing our work on fine and gross motor skills.
Ding-Dong classes for children aged 3 and 4 years, are the culmination of the progressive Monkey Music curriculum. A real introduction to music and the skills needed to start school. The children learn by sight and sound the instruments of a symphony orchestra, by family. They start to learn rhythm notation they begin to recognize crotchets, quavers and rests and can play what they see - an essential skill for reading music and learning an instrument, we encourage the children to work independently from their grown-ups. Asking questions for themselves gives the children a real feeling of confidence and ability.

Monkey Music enhances social, emotional, intellectual, motor, language skills, as well as teaching a lifelong love of music. Everyone is encouraged to reach their full potential in well managed class sizes.

Book today and  come and find out just why Monkey Music has been loved by so many for the last 25 years.

Can I feed my baby during Beautiful Noise? Yes, of course. We understand that you will want to make yourself and your baby as comfortable as possible during your Beautiful Noise class and you may feed/change/sleep whenever you feel like it!
What happens if my baby sleeps all the way through the class? Beautiful Noise has been created so that you and Baby can share precious time together whilst enjoying the class for mutual reasons and for different reasons. Our teachers understand that our youngest babies need their sleep so if your baby sleeps peacefully during your class then you will be encouraged to join in whilst they sleep close by.

If there are no programmes happening in your local area then email hello@monkeymusic.co.uk for an update on programmes which may be opening soon.
How and when do I receive my Beautiful Noise online sessions? Our Beautiful Noise online sessions are sent via email to all members of our face-to-face classes immediately after their first and second classes. Both sessions have been created so that you can practice at home what you and Baby have learned in class.
What is in my Beautiful Noise Kit Bag? Inside your Beautiful Noise Kit Bag (a linen tote) you will find a Monkey Music wave drum, Monkey Music maracito and a sensory scarf. You will be encouraged to use these instruments and the sensory scarf at home when joining in with the online sessions.
What do the classes involve? Monkey Music is an interactive award winning musical curriculum. Classes are small and tailor-made for babies and young children who are grouped according to their age. Each child is accompanied by their carer. Little ones sing, dance and play musical instruments. Grown ups join in the fun too!
Do you offer ‘mixed age’ classes? Because of the progressive nature of our curricula which is age specific, we do not offer regular weekly mixed classes. However, during the holidays, many of our teachers offer mixed age holiday workshops.
What do you expect of the children, do they have to sit down the whole time? Each class is carefully structured and formatted so that every child and carer is encouraged to join in with the fun. Classes are paced according to each age group with the opportunity for little ones to be up on their feet during ‘Time to Move’ and sitting with their carers during ‘Time to Play’ and ‘Time to Sleep’. Most children quickly learn what is happening next and Monkey helps them with friendly encouragement!
Why are Monkey Music classes 30 minutes long? Our classes have been honed and developed over 25 years and are designed to fully captivate babies and young children for the duration. The very interactive nature of every class means that our little monkeys need to rest again after 30 minutes of magical music making!
Why is Monkey Music more expensive than the other music groups around? Monkey Music has been established for over 25 years and is proud to have a rich musical heritage. We offer a unique and progressive learning experience for your child, which is supported by over 500 original songs and musical activities. Our talented teachers are carefully chosen and trained to offer the highest standard of pre-school music education.

Heigh-Ho: from 12 months
Jiggety-Jig: 2 + 3 year olds

Can babies relate to music at such a young age? The ear is the first organ to develop fully in the womb. From five months, an unborn baby can hear the world around them. Early exposure to music encourages babies to develop their musical ear which supports all aspects of early learning and development.
Just as language skills are developed early in life, so is musical talent. Regardless of the level of music aptitude with which children are born, they must have formal and informal experiences in music to maintain that level of potential.
