Welcome to our classes

My name is Bethan Craner and I'm delighted to run Monkey Music Redditch and Worcester. Music has always been a big part of my life, some of my earliest memories are musical and when I started to play the trumpet I realised the joy music gave to me. At University I studied Early Years giving me knowledge of how young children learn.

At Monkey Music we know that choosing activities to do with your baby, toddler and pre-schooler is an important decision and finding quality sessions which keeps them engaged is important. We feel very privileged to be able to bring Monkey Music classes both in venues and live streamed online sessions into your home with our MonkeyMusic at Home session's. In both our venue classes and online session's your child will grow in confidence and build on new skills they develop week on week. Enjoy sharing precious time together each week.

Let me give you some more information about our music sessions and why I run Monkey Music in Redditch, Worcester, Evesham, Bromsgrove, Droitwich and Pershore area.

My name is Bethan, I first enjoyed Monkey Music while I was working as a nursery nurse. I was amazed by the confidence, language development and co-ordination skills the children developed because of Monkey Music. Each week the children sung original songs and played high quality real instruments, not toys, in every class. When I had my son in 2015 I looked into taking him to Monkey Music and found that there were no sessions in Worcestershire.

When I looked into Monkey Music one of the main reasons I choose to run sessions in Redditch, Worcester, Evesham, Droitwich and Pershore was the award winning four different curricula which are written for each age specific stage. I found that the original songs used in each of the curriculas where fun and catchy. The instruments where high quality and the teachers had musical knowledge at the heart of each and every session they delivered. I also liked that the child development knowledge and early years learning skills I had learnt at University would be put into action each week.

In all of our age-specific stages the babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers sing original songs which are easy to pick-up allowing everyone to join in with the singing in each session. Each week I really enjoy watching the children in all of our sessions gain confidence and musical knowledge through the original progressive curricula's we follow. The babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers play high quality instruments and learn how to play them in different ways as they progress through our four age-specific stages. At Monkey Music we know how important all aspects of a child's development are, which is why in all of our sessions the children move their whole body in different ways to the beat of the music. Our music sessions provided a great social experience for the babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers as they learn with other children of a similar age allowing all the children to be at similar stages in their development. Monkey Music is fun for the whole family and allows carers to meet other parents and carers with children of a similar age.

At Monkey Music Redditch and Worcester all our teachers are trained by Monkey Music and have continuous training throughout the year where they gain new ideas on ways to deliver our high-quality music sessions. They are supported by our high quality real instruments, resources, props and the award-winning Monkey Music curricula to deliver amazing sessions each week. Our music teachers are passionate about music and child development. They also have wonderful singing voices. All our music teachers are also first aid trained and CRB checked. To read more about our music teacher's please click below.

Music plays an important role in the early development of a child life. Research has shown music can aid all areas of a child’s development. Children are natural and instinctive music makers and in our half an hour classes will use a combination of unique songs, catchy music, rhymes, high quality props, real instruments and lots of energy to enable each baby, toddler and pre-schooler to expressive their music skills. In Monkey Music our curriculum songs and activities are carefully selected for each developmental stage which is why our classes are grouped according to age ensuring the ‘best fit’ for your child.  With over three hundred original and traditions songs sung both accompanied and unaccompanied in all our four age specific classes your baby, toddler and pre-schooler will be singing our classes at home each week.

We would love to welcome you to our music session, so you are able to experience our award-winning pre-school session for yourself.  Our sessions run in Redditch, Worcester, Evesham, Bromsgrove, Droitwich and Pershore areas we have classes close to you. We look forward to meeting you soon.

The Monkey Team

Bethan Craner

My name is Bethan, the best part of my week is when I am in class teaching. When I first experienced Monkey Music I found myself singing the songs all week. This is still the case now that I am teaching, people often find me singing as I am out and about. I look forward to meeting you soon at class.

Amanda Hughes

I have been teaching for Monkey Music since September 2017. I find it wonderful to see the confidence build in the children each week in class. Music has been my main focus, learning to play the clarinet, flute and singing at school I still play in a Jazz band and I am glad I teach for Monkey Music.

As of 15 October 2020, how does the new 3 Tier alert level affect Monkey Music classes? Currently, all Monkey Music classes at Covid-secure venues across the UK remain open to adult carers who bring children who live in the same household or who are in the same bubble. We will continue to monitor the situation closely. Please contact your local classes if you have specific questions about Monkey Music classes in your area
What is your Health and Safety plan around Covid-19? Please see our Monkey Music Covid-19 Health and Safety plan here which details the measures we are putting in place to keep everyone safe at Monkey Music.
What do the classes involve? Monkey Music is an interactive award winning musical curriculum. Classes are small and tailor-made for babies and young children who are grouped according to their age. Each child is accompanied by their carer. Little ones sing, dance and play musical instruments. Grown ups join in the fun too!
Do you offer ‘mixed age’ classes? Because of the progressive nature of our curricula which is age specific, we do not offer regular weekly mixed classes. However, during the holidays, many of our teachers offer mixed age holiday workshops.
What do you expect of the children, do they have to sit down the whole time? Each class is carefully structured and formatted so that every child and carer is encouraged to join in with the fun. Classes are paced according to each age group with the opportunity for little ones to be up on their feet during ‘Time to Move’ and sitting with their carers during ‘Time to Play’ and ‘Time to Sleep’. Most children quickly learn what is happening next and Monkey helps them with friendly encouragement!
Why are Monkey Music classes 30 minutes long? Our classes have been honed and developed over 25 years and are designed to fully captivate babies and young children for the duration. The very interactive nature of every class means that our little monkeys need to rest again after 30 minutes of magical music making!
Why is Monkey Music more expensive than the other music groups around? Monkey Music has been established for over 25 years and is proud to have a rich musical heritage. We offer a unique and progressive learning experience for your child, which is supported by over 500 original songs and musical activities. Our talented teachers are carefully chosen and trained to offer the highest standard of pre-school music education.
What makes Monkey Music classes so special? Monkey Music classes are considered a leading light in pre-school education. Come along for a free class to see for yourself what make Monkey Music classes the highlight of the week for so many families across the UK!
What if I miss my usual class? During our transition back to classes due to Covid-19, should you miss a class, or your teacher is unable to teach, you will receive a link to a special Monkey Music class to join in at home. You may enjoy this class as many times as you would like to over the week! Please speak to your teacher for more details.
What do I need to bring with me? Everything you need to enjoy our classes is made available by the teacher, however, should you prefer not to use the Monkey Music instruments provided at class (these will have been freshly santised for each customer prior to use), you may bring your own Monkey Music approved instruments purchased from our online shop or identical items bought elsewhere. You may also bring along your own small blanket for your child to sit on.
Can I bring a newborn baby too? Babes in arms accompanying older siblings are welcome in our classes free of charge, please speak to your local classes for more information.
Why don’t you offer drop-in classes? We value musical education as a fundamental part of early development, and as such our regular weekly classes are progressive to maximise the learning potential of each child.
Do I have to be musical? No! Our teachers will make you feel welcome whatever your musical ability.
Do I have to sing along? We love it when our customers join in and your children benefit from hearing the sound of a familiar voice, no matter how good or bad! However, current Government Guidelines don't allow for sing-along activities so for the time being our classes are directed and sung by the teacher only. Customers may enjoy our songs at home by purchasing our class specific download albums or books - all available from our online shop.
Can I bring an adult friend/relative to class? Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 restrictions, we ask that only one adult accompanies the child/children to Monkey Music classes.
Can I opt out of the membership fee? No, our online club is designed to support the learning experience of children at our regular classes and is a popular go-to places between classes to enjoy making Monkey Music at home.
Is it OK for me to take photos or video in class? No, we politely request that you refrain from taking photos or videos at class.
Why pay a membership fee? When enrolling in Monkey Music for the first time, a child becomes a member of our online Monkey Music Club. New members receive a Welcome Pack, including a Monkey Music T-shirt, beautiful sticker pack and milestone card as well as access to our online club which supports the child in their learning experience at Monkey Music. The membership fee is payable when registering each child in regular weekly classes at Monkey Music and we offer a discount to siblings who join at any stage. Siblings receive their own welcome pack and T-shirt to wear to class. Ask your local classes for more details.

How much does a class cost? Please ask at your local Monkey Music Office.
Can I try a class before I sign up to a course? Yes. You and your child are invited along for a free complimentary class when making an initial booking enquiry.
At what age can my child start Monkey Music? From 3 months old.
How long is a class? Half an hour. Each 30 minute class is a significant step in our progressive curricula. Classes are carefully planned to maximise the attention span of a very young child so that they learn from sharing a rewarding, enjoyable and worthwhile experience.
Are all the teachers musically trained? All Monkey music teachers are specifically trained on delivering the Monkey Music curriculum. Many of them are professional musicians and teachers.
Are the classes different for each age group? Yes. Our curriculum is structured and progressive. Rock’n'Roll: from 3 months Heigh-Ho: from 12 months Jiggety-Jig: 2 + 3 year olds Ding-Dong: 3 + 4 year olds
Can babies relate to music at such a young age? The ear is the first organ to develop fully in the womb. From five months, an unborn baby can hear the world around them. Early exposure to music encourages babies to develop their musical ear which supports all aspects of early learning and development. Just as language skills are developed early in life, so is musical talent. Regardless of the level of music aptitude with which children are born, they must have formal and informal experiences in music to maintain that level of potential.
