Hello, I'm Claire and I am delighted to be running Monkey Music classes for babies, toddlers and pre-school children across Watford, Radlett, Borehamwood and Bushey. Nurturing a love of music in children and enabling all our families to share precious time together is a delight!
Read more...My Monkey Music journey first began as a mum, enjoying all 4 classes with my children and in 2016 I was privileged to take over and run local classes in Uxbridge and Harrow. When the opportunity arose to open more lessons in Hertfordshire too, I jumped at the chance! Nurturing a love of music in young children and enabling all our families to share precious time together is a delight!
Music has always been a great passion of mine. I started playing the violin from the age of 7 and joined the Harrow School for Young Musicians soon after. During this time, I had some amazing opportunities to play at wonderful venues including the Royal Albert Hall. Later in life, I met and married a fellow violinist who is an incredibly talented musician. Music plays a big part in our lives!
We were therefore delighted to discover Monkey Music with our first child, Noah. Knowing how music helps in all aspects of a child's development and wanting to instil a love of music with him at an early age, this was the perfect activity for us and now both our kids have now progressed through all four stages of the Monkey Music curriculum.
The baby class, Rock'n'Roll is a lovely gentle introduction to music and a great bonding time for baby and carer. Babies are fascinated by all the wonderful sounds they hear and sights they see, offering a sensory experience to help develop your baby’s innate musical ability.
The next step around a year old is Heigh-Ho! Here, our toddlers love exploring all the large colourful props and the instruments. This class takes advantage that your little one is on the move giving them ample opportunity to individually respond to the music and explore the instruments and the sounds they can make
At 2, it is time for Jiggety-Jig and in this class the children really develop their listening skills, playing different rhythms and exploring the multitude of ways different instruments can be played and the different sounds they make. This class sees your little one grow in confidence, developing their sense of rhythm, interacting with the teacher and each other and using their own initiative to move and play along to the music.
Next is Ding-Dong, the preschool class. This class is incredible – the children learn to read music, write their own compositions and identify the instruments of the orchestra as well as singing along to all the familiar songs with gusto! It is an amazing springboard from which to continue developing their musical career in school and beyond.
Not only do children attending Monkey Music develop all the skills needed to start playing an instrument, and instil a lifetime love of music, they also learn so many skills that will benefit them in other areas as well. Early music education is well-known to benefit many areas of the brain and our Monkey Music curriculum has been specifically designed to help all areas of development. Action songs and rhymes build language and numerical skills; playing handheld instruments such as maracas, drums and castanets refine fine motor skills while movement helps facilitate the awareness of space and of each other. Being within a group helps build children's confidence and social interaction. But the children don't realise this, they just know they are having fun and enjoying themselves!
It is a privilege each week to teach the babies, toddlers and preschoolers, to see them captivated by the class and to see them develop through a love of music. And it is not just the children, the grownups have such fun too and it is lovely to share in their enjoyment as well.
We are all looking forward to welcoming you soon, so book a class today and come and join us on your own Monkey Music journey with your child.
