This week saw National Poetry Day! We all enjoy sharing traditional nursery rhymes with our little ones but I love that we have loads of our own original rhymes, as well as songs, at Monkey Music. The expression in our voices and on our faces really does capture our little one’s attention, and the repetitive nature of poems, whether in the words or the arrangement of the stressed and unstressed syllables, encourages children to recognise patterns - a vital skill in language learning and early maths!
We’ve shared poetry in class all this week - expressive rhymes that you and your little one can learn and add to your repertoire at home! Why not make tonight’s bedtime story a bedtime rhyme and celebrate the magic of poetry with your child?
