Our Monkey Music Story
“I originally attended Monkey Music as a parent with my daughter when she was 5 months old. She has benefited greatly from Monkey Music and certainly loved every minute, graduating the top level, Ding-Dong, just before starting Primary school.
As a professional West End Musical Theatre performer and cabaret singer, I couldn’t wait to be a Monkey Music teacher and engage with a slightly younger audience!
Having taught since 2013, I get so much enjoyment and satisfaction seeing the Little Monkeys progress and improve week by week. They are amazing and the big smiles from both the children and adults in class makes my job the best in the world!”
“With my background of Occupational Therapy, it was the child development side of things that first sparked my interest in Monkey Music. I attend classes with my son, and am fascinated to see the progress and development from all babies and young children in class whilst they are obviously having so much fun! Music has so many benefits and using it as a vehicle for learning is the perfect fit for young children. I also found the classes a great bonding experience for carer and child, and love watching friendships form and blossom for not only the children, but the grown-ups too!”
Tina and Emma have been friends for 15 years and are very excited to be joining Monkey Music at this exciting time!
The Power of Local Music Groups for Babies and Young Children
Music makes us feel good, whatever our age.
Did you know that the ear is the first organ to develop fully in the womb, enabling babies to take comfort in the music of their mother’s voice at just 11 weeks?
Aside from being fun, music is an intellectual exercise, stimulating all kinds of learning from self-expression to hand-eye co-ordination. Musical activities help young children master language development, concentration, memory and hone key social skills.
Music influences all areas of development – social, emotional, intellectual, motor, language and overall learning processes. Dr Charles Eliot from Harvard University said that “Music rightly is the best mind trainer. The power of music goes beyond what words can explain.”
Early childhood development and education experts, psychologists and neuroscientists have stated that music not only offers a joyful learning experience, but it also helps brain cells to make the connections required for every kind of intelligence. It nurtures a child’s imagination and creativity.
While all this is going on, classes encourage children to grow in confidence, improve their listening and communication skills and learn how to interact with others. It’s also extremely rewarding as the children nurture their natural love of music whilst having fun!
Monkey Music and your family
Music builds the powerful bond between the parent and child which is created through the musical moments shared together through rhythm, movement, sensations and feelings.
Our classes are also designed to encourage positive communication between parent and child, as well as nurture a lifetime love of music.
At Monkey Music South Epsom, Leatherhead and Dorking we are regularly told about how much fun the adults are having too!
A bit more about our Children’s musical activities
Each class uses original and traditional songs, fun musical and movement activities, the finest percussion instruments (not toys!) and enchanting props. Everyone is encouraged to reach their full potential in well-managed class sizes. Classes are age specific ensuring children learn and thrive with friends of a similar age.
We offer a complimentary class so that you can come and find out what we are all about, though we hope that Monkey Music’s wonderful reputation, which has grown since 1993, precedes us and will assure you that there is no better choice for a children’s music class.
