I have always had a love of music and particularly singing and as a mother of 2, I truly believe in the power of music and the role it can play in the development and education of young children. I started my Monkey Music career in Berkhamsted and Rickmansworth in 2018 and am thrilled to now be running the area of Harpenden and St Albans. Our classes run a progressive curriculum and help to develop the child's physical, social and language skills all through music. Most importantly, Monkey Music classes are a lot of fun! There are lots of opportunities for bonding with your child as well as music making, singing and movement. Your first class is free so why not come along and join in the fun! I look forward to welcoming you to our monkey family!

I love music, especially singing and was vocally trained from a young age. After the birth of my daughter I was keen to find a baby class that we could enjoy together but would also introduce musical elements. I discovered Monkey Music and was captivated, as was she, from the outset. It was wonderful to watch her develop in confidence and social skills as well as seeing her improving her sense of rhythm. Having seen the benefits of Monkey Music first hand, I jumped at the chance to run my own classes when the opportunity arose.

Since our first classes in 1993, the power of Monkey Music has brought a smile to the faces of hundreds of thousands of babies, toddlers and young children (and grown- ups too!) across the UK.
Recently, we have been touched by the words of many of our families who have openly shared how much our classes mean to them and how belonging to our groups with their children, has brought them so much joy and supported them through difficult times.

“The psychological benefits of such classes/groups to both parents and children are significant. They act as a form of crucial peer support with the added benefit of the music focus which is important for mental wellbeing. As we know, the mental health of the parents impacts the mental health and development of the child” Monkey Music Parent and Parent-Infant Psychotherapist

The unique four stage progressive curriculum introduces children to all aspects of rhythm, pitch and tempo. As they progress through the classes, they are introduced to different instruments and musical aspects, giving them a sound musical base for when they start to learn a musical instrument at school age and beyond.

Research
The ear is the first organ to develop fully in the womb and at 5 months, an unborn baby will be able to hear the world around him. Unborn babies take great comfort in their parents' voices and they will remember music and songs, that they have heard in the womb for up to 12 months after they have been born.

From very early on at Monkey Music, our babies are developing their musical ear. Through singing and simple action songs, they learn to de-code language, interact with each other and expand on their numerical skills.

Our classes are deliberately 30 minutes long. There has been a lot of research to suggest that any longer than 30 minutes can be overwhelming for the little ones and they will lose focus and attention. We ensure those 30 minutes are action packed and follow a structure each week to allow your child to remain focussed and enjoy every element of the class.

Our Classes
Rock'n'Roll classes are for babies from 3 months and are a gentle start to music making with lots of opportunities for carer and child bonding and all-important cuddles! With an emphasis on simple and pulse-based songs and bright and colourful sensory props to provide your babies with visual stimulation. We use beautifully crafted percussion instruments and babies are exposed to interesting and unusual sounds, being encouraged to follow the instruments and its sounds until they are old enough to play themselves.

Heigh-Ho classes are tailored for 12 months to 2 years. At this stage in your child's development, we are aware that they are up and about and intersted in discovering the world around them! The classes are action packed with original songs as well as well-known nursery rhymes and the children are encouraged to play the instruments along with their teacher and friends. At this stage the children are also introduced to a wider number of instruments and are discovering the different timbres that each of these make.

Jiggety-Jig classes are for children aged 2 to 3 years ols. The children in these classes start to be able to engage with more concentrated activities and there is a greater emphasis on developing social skills and sharing required for nursery and pre-school. The children are more able to play rhythmically and introduce pitch and tempo to their playing.

Ding-Dong classes are for children 3 years and upwards. During these classes, the children will learn to recognise different orchestral instruments and are ready to learn to read music! We introduce 'stick notation' so that the children can begin to learn to read the beats of the music. This knowledge is invaluable when the children eventually learn a musical instrument.

Venues
We have spent a long time researching and securing our venues, so we can offer a clean, warm and welcoming environment for you and your children. We also have classes available at our sister franchise in Berkhamsted & Rickmansworth in venues across, Berkhamsted, Chesham, Hemel Hempstead & Rickmansworth.

I look forward to meeting you and your little ones soon!

Can babies relate to music at such a young age? The ear is the first organ to develop fully in the womb. From five months, an unborn baby can hear the world around them. Early exposure to music encourages babies to develop their musical ear which supports all aspects of early learning and development.
Just as language skills are developed early in life, so is musical talent. Regardless of the level of music aptitude with which children are born, they must have formal and informal experiences in music to maintain that level of potential.
Can my partner and I both bring our baby to Beautiful Noise? Yes, Beautiful Noise is perfect for parents who attend on their own or with a partner.
How long is each Beautiful Noise face-to-face class or Beautiful Noise event? Each Beautiful Noise face-to-face class and Beautiful Noise event is an hour long. This gives everyone lots of time to settle/feed/change before Beautiful Noise begins and at the end before leaving.
Can I feed my baby during Beautiful Noise? Yes, of course. We understand that you will want to make yourself and your baby as comfortable as possible during Beautiful Noise and you may feed/change/sleep whenever you feel like it!
What happens if my baby sleeps all the way through Beautiful Noise? Beautiful Noise has been created so that you and Baby can share precious time together whilst enjoying it for mutual reasons and for different reasons. Our teachers understand that our youngest babies need their sleep so if your baby sleeps peacefully during Beautiful Noise then you will be encouraged to join in whilst they sleep close by.
How and when do I receive my Beautiful Noise online sessions? Our Beautiful Noise online sessions are sent via email to all members of our Beautiful Noise programmes and Beautiful Noise events after attendance at the face to face session and have been created so that you can practice at home what you and Baby have learned at Beautiful Noise.
What is in the Beautiful Noise Kit Bag? Inside the Beautiful Noise Kit Bag (a linen tote) you will find a Monkey Music wave drum, Monkey Music maracito and a sensory scarf. You will be encouraged to use these instruments and the sensory scarf at home when joining in with the online sessions.
What makes Monkey Music weekly classes so special? Monkey Music has been established for over 30 years and is proud to have a rich musical heritage. We offer a unique and progressive learning experience for your child, which is supported by over 500 original songs and musical activities. Monkey Music classes are considered a leading light in pre-school education. Our talented teachers are carefully chosen and trained to offer the highest standard of pre-school music education. Come along for a free class to see for yourself what make Monkey Music classes the highlight of the week for so many families across the UK!
What do the weekly Monkey Music classes involve? Monkey Music is an interactive award winning musical curriculum. The regular weekly classes are small and tailor-made for babies and young children who are grouped according to their age. Each child is accompanied by their carer. Little ones sing, dance and play musical instruments. Grown ups join in the fun too!
How much does a class cost? The price for classes in the area you would like to attend is shown during the booking process and you can also ask at your local Monkey Music Office.
Can I try a class before I sign up to the monthly rolling subscription for weekly classes? Yes. You and your child are invited along for a free complimentary class when making an initial booking enquiry.
How does payment for weekly classes work? After your first free class your place at class is reserved for you for 2 working days from the date and time of the free class. If you go on to confirm your place, payment for your monthly rolling subscription for classes will be taken on the 1st working day of each month for the classes booked in that calendar month that are due for payment. Customers joining midway through a calendar month will be charged for the remainder of classes in that calendar month, save where you book to join for the last class of a month and in this case the amount you will pay when making the booking will include the cost for the classes in the next month when classes are offered. Customers booking during a holiday break prior to the start of a teaching period will pay for their first calendar month of classes when making their booking.
When do classes run? Regular classes run during class teaching periods (please check the timetable for the area you would like to attend classes, details of the sort breaks and holiday breaks will be listed there). Many areas also run seasonal Holiday Workshops and Events during the class break periods.
How many children are in a class? Places are limited and will vary from venue to venue. Our maximum capacity is 15 children per class.
Can I bring a newborn baby too? Babes in arms accompanying older siblings are welcome in our classes free of charge, please speak to your local classes for more information.
Can I catch up a missed class? Subject to eligibility and availability it may be possible to catch up a booked class that you have missed, please contact your local class provider for more details.
Can I swap my class to another day or time? Subject to eligibility and availability it may be possible to swap a booked class, please contact your local class provider for more details.
What do you expect of the children, do they have to sit down the whole time? Each class is carefully structured and formatted so that every child and carer is encouraged to join in with the fun. Classes are paced according to each age group with the opportunity for little ones to be up on their feet during ‘Time to Move’ and sitting with their carers during ‘Time to Play’ and ‘Time to Sleep’. Most children quickly learn what is happening next and Monkey helps them with friendly encouragement!
What do I need to bring with me? Everything you need to enjoy our classes is made available by the teacher, however, should you prefer not to use the Monkey Music instruments provided at class, you may bring your own Monkey Music approved instruments purchased from our online shop or identical items bought elsewhere. You may also bring along your own small blanket for your child to sit on.
Why are most of the Monkey Music classes 30 minutes long? Our classes have been honed and developed over 30 years and are designed to fully captivate babies and young children for the duration. Each 30 minute class is a significant step in our progressive curricula. Classes are carefully planned to maximise the attention span of a very young child so that they learn from sharing a rewarding, enjoyable and worthwhile experience. The very interactive nature of every class means that our little ones need to rest again after 30 minutes of magical music making!
Do you offer ‘mixed age’ classes? Because of the progressive nature of our curricula which is age specific, we do not offer regular weekly mixed age classes. However, during the holidays, many of our teachers offer mixed age holiday workshops and events.
Are all the teachers musically trained? All Monkey music teachers are specifically trained on delivering the Monkey Music curriculum. Many of them are professional musicians and teachers.
Do I have to be musical? No! Our teachers will make you feel welcome whatever your musical ability.
Do I have to sing along? We love it when families sing along and your children will benefit from hearing the sound of a familiar voice, no matter how good or bad! But – there is no pressure to sing because listening, watching and playing the instruments will keep you and your child busy enough! Families may enjoy our songs at home by purchasing our class specific playlists available from our online shop.
Can I bring an adult friend/relative to class? This is usually possible, but we do ask that you contact your local teacher to ask permission beforehand. This is because some of our teaching rooms have maximum levels of occupancy and our teachers need to know who is attending each session, thank you.
Can I opt out of the membership fee? No, our online club is designed to support the learning experience of children at our regular classes and is a popular go-to places between classes to enjoy making Monkey Music at home.
Is it OK for me to take photos or video in class? No, we politely request that you refrain from taking photos or videos at class.
Why don’t you offer drop-in classes? We value musical education as a fundamental part of early development, and as such our regular weekly classes are progressive to maximise the learning potential of each child.
How do I cancel my class booking?
