Welcome to my classes in

Kew, Richmond, Twickenham and Teddington

Claire Slade

My name is Claire Slade and I run Monkey Music’s award winning classes for babies and young children in Kew, Richmond, Twickenham and Teddington.

I studied double bass and piano at the Royal College of Music and played professionally until the birth of my first child when I soon realised it was time to find something closer to home with more family-friendly hours. That was Monkey Music!  I now have a team of wonderfully talented and inspirational teachers who work alongside me, using our innovative musical curriculum to engage the youngest of babies and working with them and their carers through their pre-school years to establish a real love and understanding of music.

Why not get in touch and book your free first session today- we look forward to welcoming you and your family to our classes.

Learning through enjoyment. Monkey Music classes for babies and toddlers in West London; Kew, Richmond, Twickenham and Teddington.

Music makes us feel good whatever our age and sharing Monkey Music with you baby or child means precious time spent together, making your child feel loved and strengthening your bond with each other.

All children are born with an instinctive musicality and many research studies show how early exposure to melody, singing and playing music is invaluable to early development.  Monkey Music encourages and nurtures natural social and musical skills whilst ensuring that every child benefits from the positive effect of music.  It encourages fine motor skills to be refined whilst language and numerical skills flourish though action songs and rhymes.  Awareness of space and of one another is developed through gentle dance and movement and there is plenty of opportunity for children to experiment with instruments and to make music of their own, which can also nurture a future passion and talent for a particular musical instrument.

Many Monkey Music parents specifically mention now important Monkey Music classes are as a preparation for nursery and pre-school.  Teachers are amazed, they say, at the enthusiasm and levels of concentration that children who have been to Monkey Music are able to demonstrate when listening and responding to music.

Why Monkey Music?

Monkey Music introduces music to your child in a way that they can easily understand and enjoy with specialist teachers gently encouraging social and musical skills within a fun, stimulating and friendly environment.  Monkey Music has over 21 years’ experience of providing award-winning music classes to babies and young children, nurturing their love of music so that it will last a life-time.  At the heart of Monkey Music is a progressive and innovative 4-stage curriculum captivating both children and adults with a winning combination of traditional and original songs, gentle dance and movement, colourful and imaginative props and a wide variety of specialist percussion instruments.

Monkey Music classes are themed and tailored specifically to individual age-groups and are led by specially trained, talented teachers who are carefully chosen for their natural ability to capture the imagination and communicate with young children.  Created and inspired by Guildhall School of Music and Drama graduate Angie Coates, Monkey Music classes first opened in London in 1993.  Today there are over 50 franchises operating in over 300 locations across the county with thousands of little Monkeys and their families enjoying classes every week.

Choosing the perfect music class for your little Monkey

At Monkey Music all classes are small and tailored to individual age-groups.  The four stages of our curriculum are:

Rock’n’Roll music classes for young babies (from 3 months)

Babies and adults are engaged through gentle songs, fascinating sounds and absorbing activities.  Share precious time with your baby; your close bond will play an important part in their emotional and intellectual development.

Heigh-Ho  music classes for older babies (from 12 months)

Heigh-Ho children are up on their feet and raring to go! Catchy songs and upbeat sounds get everyone in the mood for dancing and singing.  Action songs and rhymes encourage early language development while colourful props develop visual memory, captivate the children and encourage everyone to get involved.

Jiggety-Jig music groups for toddlers (from 2 years)

By this stage, children can really express the joy that music brings them.  They sing, dance, play, move, tell stories and listen to music together.  Songs and activities focus on building imagination and developing social skills as well as rhythm and pitch.

Ding-Dong music classes for older toddlers (from 3 years)

Ding-Dong children are now ready to learn to read music!  Building on their Monkey Music foundation of rhythm, pitch, tempo and melody, they begin to make the connection between the music that they hear and the music that they read.  This is a huge milestone and paves the way for a bright musical future.

Monkey Music. Award winning music classes for babies, toddlers, mums, dads and carers in Kew, Richmond, Twickenham and Teddington.
