What musical principles do we learn at Monkey Music?

At Monkey Music we lay the foundations for a musical future in our children. Our fun, interactive music classes for babies and toddlers encourage little ones to fulfil their musical potential and we’re always delighted when we hear how many children go on to play instruments at school and beyond!

Babies are born with a natural ability to appreciate music, and early exposure to music plays a crucial role in wiring your baby’s brain for learning. Learning an instrument has been proven beneficial regardless of age, however, during childhood whilst the brain is still in the critical stages of development, these benefits are strengthened, so the sooner your child starts to learn to play an instrument, the better!

Making music is fun and children who play a musical instrument are constantly improving their physical co-ordination and motor skills, which in turn will improve their balance and hand-eye co-ordination.  

Our Musical Curriculum

What musical principles to expect in our current classes?

By the time your children reach the top class in Monkey Music they will know how to read the basic elements of music! How do we get there with our little ones? By:

• Learning how to play all our hand-held percussion instruments and also be able to recognize and choose sounds which correspond with what they hear
• Understanding rhythmic sequences focus as your children begin to play in time to the music 
• Exploring control and expression by playing more intentionally using dynamics and tempo 
• Playing with new magical sounds they may have never heard, linking these to creativity and storytelling 
• Experiencing the instruments of the orchestra being allowed to touch, play and experiment with real life instruments, setting the first foundations of taking an interest in learning a musical instrument
