Welcome to Monkey Music Oxford. We are Flick and Richard Moorhouse. Before running our local Oxfordshire music classes for babies and toddlers, Flick had many years experience working with young children in both Montessori and other early years settings. She was a keen member of several choirs, so the opportunity to combine these and become a Monkey Music teacher was a perfect match!
Richard worked as a professional musician for over 20 years and has held posts at Westminster Abbey and St Paul’s Cathedral, helping many Cathedral choristers to sing like angels! We have also enjoyed cultivating our own children’s interest in music. Our experience shows, that music can offer babies and children so many crucial learning opportunities at this precious stage of life, giving both child and carer special moments together, nurturing, exciting and fun environment.
To discover the all the fun and learning of Monkey Music please get in touch. We’d love you to join our friendly classes in Oxford, Abingdon and Thame and look forward to meeting you very soon.
Award Winning Children’s Music Activities in the Oxford Area
Preschool children in Oxford, Abingdon and Thame come to our classes to have a musical experience which is full of fun with an educational twist. Monkey Music’s specialist teachers start taking our youngest babies from three months into a gently paced session with similar aged little ones, keeping the classes small for that intimate feel so that carers and babies often become friends for life. There are magic sounds which captivate the babies, opportunities for them to begin discovering they too can make music with our instruments which are perfectly sized for little hands. There is lots of parental involvement, listening to our rhymes; singing along with our songs and helping their baby or child develop their emotional, social, language and physical skills. As the babies grow, so they progress through the tailor-made music classes, to become inquisitive toddlers and then more independent children who will be even more ready for nursery or big school having had such a fun learning experience at Monkey Music. Our 30-minute classes are packed with age appropriate activities to keep all of the family engaged, with many great resources to stimulate the children’s natural desire to learn and be little sponges absorbing so much from the vast range of traditional and original songs, musical games and busy movement activities.
The early days
Monkey is now 22 years old – and has clearly stood the test of time in the world of preschool music classes. The curriculum and resources were devised by Guildhall School of Music and Drama graduate Angie Coates, Monkey Music’s founder and Managing Director. With both a professional musician and teaching background, she has continued to ensure that the classes are full of fresh activities, new resources, a variety of songs and music. Much of the material was devised as her own family of 5 children came along, and has been tried and tested on them as well as at classes across the UK. The curriculums are regularly updated to keep them contemporary and exciting for parents and children alike. She remains a very active leader of the specialised team, helping more than 50 Monkey Music franchises carry on their weekly children’s musical activities in over 300 venues.
