With my own family I know the joy that music brings, regardless of ability, which makes Monkey Music an exceptional place to start. Local families have enjoyed our much-loved weekly classes for over 30 years. Here in Wandsworth we have a very talented team, teaching our Award-Winning Curriculum, which is at the heart of our pre-school classes. With their high energy and creativity, they provide children's musical activities within a family friendly environment.

Families

As with so many families' music has always been part of our daily lives and we welcome parents, grandparents, nannies, carers of babies, toddlers and nursery aged children to share our classes. My own background is in musical theatre, and so at home my family still happily trips over the much-loved instruments to gather around the piano for a song.

I wouldn't be able to run my classes without my fantastic team of teachers. This highly skilled team dedicate so much time and effort into attending training courses, planning and refining their lessons to ensure each child gets the most they can from every class. They enjoy teaching the classes as much as the families enjoy attending and it is a pleasure to introduce them to you. Please read below to meet our fantastic team!

Music Groups and Learning

Music plays an important role in the pre-school early development of a child. As a baby we are instinctive music makers and as parents we naturally use music to sooth and calm. At Monkey Music our curriculum and resources use songs and activities that are carefully selected for each developmental stage. The children will learn to move to music, communicate effectively and develop their fine and gross motor skills through playing, singing and dancing.  The benefits of music are enormous, and our activities and resources are used to stimulate and educate your child at every stage. We will teach your child the structure of our classes from the very beginning.

Classes are deliberately small and make full use of the sessions to captivate your child and family. Monkey Music's tried, and tested children's musical activities use 300 original and traditional songs, a wide range of resources, musical games, and exciting movement ideas throughout the curriculum.

Pre-school babies and toddlers are grouped for our children's musical activities  to ensure the 'best fit' for your child with our four unique groups:

Rock'n'Roll Classes - Babies from 3 months enjoy gentle songs and absorbing activities learning with sensory stimulation, specialist instruments and resources.

Heigh Ho -  Toddlers from 10 months get up on their feet and develop gross motor skills, learning activities such as clapping rhythms and dancing to a favourite song.

Jiggety-Jig Classes - 2 and 3 year old children are now displaying a range of musical skills on a variety of instruments, learning singing and even beginning to compose their own music.

Ding Dong Classes - 3 and 4 year old children at this stage can read music and explore instruments of the orchestra. Our musical activities and songs are looked at in more detail and so they are learning to compose, listen and start singing in groups and on their own.

In all our classes, unlike nursery and kindergarten, our musical activities are a shared experience with other families.

Making Progress

Some children that have spent the entire first class glued to a grownups lap will grow in confidence and self-esteem so rapidly participate fully in the same song or activities only a few weeks later. This development is gained by understanding the structure and routine of the class, knowing what to expect and being involved in the experience.

We have yet to meet a toddler or nursery aged child whose face doesn't light up with a drum to beat or a maraca to shake.  In fact, all children are born with instinctive musicality, but it takes early encouragement to enable a baby or child to reach their full musical potential and our Monkey Music curriculum and resources have been honed over many years to allow them to do so.

Monkey's Story

Monkey Music has provided Award Winning Children's Music Activities for over 30 years. They are the longest running pre-school music classes in the UK. Thousands of babies, toddlers and nursery aged children are learning in our weekly classes all over the country. Here in Wandsworth, Tooting and Streatham our classes have become highly sought after.

Since classes started Monkey Music has been nominated and won many prestigious mother and baby awards, including Best National Pre-Schooler Development Activity Award and the Best National Toddler Development Class. We have been named as the Franchisor of the Year, bronze winner in the UK 2022! There are now more than 50 franchises across the country operating in more than 300 locations in the UK.

At home my family happily trips over the much-loved instruments to gather around the piano for a song. I have seen the joy that music brings to the very young, regardless of ability, and to share that each week as a Monkey Music teacher is my pleasure.

Can babies relate to music at such a young age? The ear is the first organ to develop fully in the womb. From five months, an unborn baby can hear the world around them. Early exposure to music encourages babies to develop their musical ear which supports all aspects of early learning and development.
Just as language skills are developed early in life, so is musical talent. Regardless of the level of music aptitude with which children are born, they must have formal and informal experiences in music to maintain that level of potential.
Can my partner and I both bring our baby to Beautiful Noise? Yes, Beautiful Noise is perfect for parents who attend on their own or with a partner.
How long is each Beautiful Noise face-to-face class or Beautiful Noise event? Each Beautiful Noise face-to-face class and Beautiful Noise event is an hour long. This gives everyone lots of time to settle/feed/change before Beautiful Noise begins and at the end before leaving.
Can I feed my baby during Beautiful Noise? Yes, of course. We understand that you will want to make yourself and your baby as comfortable as possible during Beautiful Noise and you may feed/change/sleep whenever you feel like it!
What happens if my baby sleeps all the way through Beautiful Noise? Beautiful Noise has been created so that you and Baby can share precious time together whilst enjoying it for mutual reasons and for different reasons. Our teachers understand that our youngest babies need their sleep so if your baby sleeps peacefully during Beautiful Noise then you will be encouraged to join in whilst they sleep close by.
How and when do I receive my Beautiful Noise online sessions? Our Beautiful Noise online sessions are sent via email to all members of our Beautiful Noise programmes and Beautiful Noise events after attendance at the face to face session and have been created so that you can practice at home what you and Baby have learned at Beautiful Noise.
What is in the Beautiful Noise Kit Bag? Inside the Beautiful Noise Kit Bag (a linen tote) you will find a Monkey Music wave drum, Monkey Music maracito and a sensory scarf. You will be encouraged to use these instruments and the sensory scarf at home when joining in with the online sessions.
What makes Monkey Music weekly classes so special? Monkey Music has been established for over 30 years and is proud to have a rich musical heritage. We offer a unique and progressive learning experience for your child, which is supported by over 500 original songs and musical activities. Monkey Music classes are considered a leading light in pre-school education. Our talented teachers are carefully chosen and trained to offer the highest standard of pre-school music education. Come along for a free class to see for yourself what make Monkey Music classes the highlight of the week for so many families across the UK!
What do the weekly Monkey Music classes involve? Monkey Music is an interactive award winning musical curriculum. The regular weekly classes are small and tailor-made for babies and young children who are grouped according to their age. Each child is accompanied by their carer. Little ones sing, dance and play musical instruments. Grown ups join in the fun too!
How much does a class cost? The price for classes in the area you would like to attend is shown during the booking process and you can also ask at your local Monkey Music Office.
Can I try a class before I sign up to the monthly rolling subscription for weekly classes? Yes. You and your child are invited along for a free complimentary class when making an initial booking enquiry.
How does payment for weekly classes work? After your first free class your place at class is reserved for you for 2 working days from the date and time of the free class. If you go on to confirm your place, payment for your monthly rolling subscription for classes will be taken on the 1st working day of each month for the classes booked in that calendar month that are due for payment. Customers joining midway through a calendar month will be charged for the remainder of classes in that calendar month, save where you book to join for the last class of a month and in this case the amount you will pay when making the booking will include the cost for the classes in the next month when classes are offered. Customers booking during a holiday break prior to the start of a teaching period will pay for their first calendar month of classes when making their booking.
When do classes run? Regular classes run during class teaching periods (please check the timetable for the area you would like to attend classes, details of the sort breaks and holiday breaks will be listed there). Many areas also run seasonal Holiday Workshops and Events during the class break periods.
How many children are in a class? Places are limited and will vary from venue to venue. Our maximum capacity is 15 children per class.
Can I bring a newborn baby too? Babes in arms accompanying older siblings are welcome in our classes free of charge, please speak to your local classes for more information.
Can I catch up a missed class? Subject to eligibility and availability it may be possible to catch up a booked class that you have missed, please contact your local class provider for more details.
Can I swap my class to another day or time? Subject to eligibility and availability it may be possible to swap a booked class, please contact your local class provider for more details.
What do you expect of the children, do they have to sit down the whole time? Each class is carefully structured and formatted so that every child and carer is encouraged to join in with the fun. Classes are paced according to each age group with the opportunity for little ones to be up on their feet during ‘Time to Move’ and sitting with their carers during ‘Time to Play’ and ‘Time to Sleep’. Most children quickly learn what is happening next and Monkey helps them with friendly encouragement!
What do I need to bring with me? Everything you need to enjoy our classes is made available by the teacher, however, should you prefer not to use the Monkey Music instruments provided at class, you may bring your own Monkey Music approved instruments purchased from our online shop or identical items bought elsewhere. You may also bring along your own small blanket for your child to sit on.
Why are most of the Monkey Music classes 30 minutes long? Our classes have been honed and developed over 30 years and are designed to fully captivate babies and young children for the duration. Each 30 minute class is a significant step in our progressive curricula. Classes are carefully planned to maximise the attention span of a very young child so that they learn from sharing a rewarding, enjoyable and worthwhile experience. The very interactive nature of every class means that our little ones need to rest again after 30 minutes of magical music making!
Do you offer ‘mixed age’ classes? Because of the progressive nature of our curricula which is age specific, we do not offer regular weekly mixed age classes. However, during the holidays, many of our teachers offer mixed age holiday workshops and events.
Are all the teachers musically trained? All Monkey music teachers are specifically trained on delivering the Monkey Music curriculum. Many of them are professional musicians and teachers.
Do I have to be musical? No! Our teachers will make you feel welcome whatever your musical ability.
Do I have to sing along? We love it when families sing along and your children will benefit from hearing the sound of a familiar voice, no matter how good or bad! But – there is no pressure to sing because listening, watching and playing the instruments will keep you and your child busy enough! Families may enjoy our songs at home by purchasing our class specific playlists available from our online shop.
Can I bring an adult friend/relative to class? This is usually possible, but we do ask that you contact your local teacher to ask permission beforehand. This is because some of our teaching rooms have maximum levels of occupancy and our teachers need to know who is attending each session, thank you.
Can I opt out of the membership fee? No, our online club is designed to support the learning experience of children at our regular classes and is a popular go-to places between classes to enjoy making Monkey Music at home.
Is it OK for me to take photos or video in class? No, we politely request that you refrain from taking photos or videos at class.
Why don’t you offer drop-in classes? We value musical education as a fundamental part of early development, and as such our regular weekly classes are progressive to maximise the learning potential of each child.
How do I cancel my class booking? You can cancel your booking at any time in the 14 days from the date the contract between you and your franchisee is first formed if you have not had face to face contact with your franchise when making the booking.
