FAQ

What happens after I have clicked on Contact Us You will receive a phone call and subsequently invited to complete an official application form and return it to us.  The next stage after that may be an invitation to come to Monkey Music Head Office for a preliminary meeting with Angie Coates, CEO and Founder of Monkey Music.
How much will the franchise cost me?  The franchise fee that you pay to Monkey Music Ltd is £13,975 + VAT. You will also need to consider your local working capital requirements for marketing, computer equipment, stock etc to see you through the initial months before an income is generated. We can offer further guidance on this when you come to meet us.
How long is the contract?  The initial franchise agreement is for 5 years.  This is renewable for a nominal sum at the option of the Franchisee (ie yourself) providing that certain criteria have been met.  These criteria are detailed in the contract, a draft of which will be given to you during the application process.
How many venues and classes am I permitted to operate?  As many as you like!
Do you need to have a musical background? You do not need any form of formal musical education, although you will need to demonstrate an interest in music, and in particular an interest in the educational and developmental benefits of including music provision in a child’s early life.  If you wish to teach in your franchise, then you will need to have a tuneful voice that projects well.
Can I be a joint franchisee? Yes. Both of you will need to apply as joint applicants and you will both be expected to attend all the training and comply to the Monkey Music contractual requirements.

For how many weeks a year will I run classes?  Regular weekly classes run for a minimum of 36 weeks per year, but many franchisees operate longer terms. Most franchisees also run workshops in the school holidays but there is no contractual commitment to do so.
In addition to regular weekly classes are there any other methods to generate income within the business model?  Yes; holiday workshops, nurseries, parties, ‘one-off’ events and merchandise sales all generate additional profit and your franchise fee gives you the rights to operate all of these opportunities from launch date.
I do not have any business experience – is this a problem?  Monkey Music franchisees come from a variety of professions, and just as a formal musical education is not necessary, neither is a track record in business.  Many people come to franchising exactly because they have no prior business experience and are looking to ‘partner’ with a team who do have a track record in business success.  Full training and support is given on the Monkey Music business model, and you will just need to demonstrate how you will manage the more ‘local’ and ‘general’ business issues that you may face, such as local IT and accounting – this may be by acknowledging the need to pay a local ‘expert’ to assist with these functions.
How do I find teachers?  You will be given top tips and methods on how to find appropriate teachers which will be explored during your business training.
How do I advertise?  Successful candidates will meet the Marketing Manager at Monkey Music who will explain what advertising and marketing material is available etc.  All franchisees have their own personalised dedicated webpage, and will often also operate a local Monkey Music Facebook site.  Flyers, posters and adverts are tailored to each franchise territory, and full guidance is offered on how to launch the brand if you are buying a new territory.
Can I talk to your existing franchisees and observe their classes? Yes we very much operate an ‘open door’ policy with regards to you speaking to other franchisees.  However, due to their busy schedules, please contact us first so that we can make an introduction in the first instance. As part of our commitment to ensuring that a potential franchisee has a well-rounded training experience, we require all candidates to go along to at least 3 franchisees to observe their classes before training.  We further advise that you observe as many different Monkey Music teaching franchisees and teachers as are practicably possible, prior to signing your contract.
Do you only have brand new franchise territories available or are there any existing franchisees looking to sell on their franchise businesses? From time to time existing franchises come up for sale - do contact us to find out if we have any for sale at the moment.  Also, if it looks like there is already a Monkey Music franchise in your area do still contact us as the current franchisee may have plans to sell.
