The award-winning Monkey Music curriculum is at the heart of our classes. Delivered by trained Monkey Music teachers, supported by high quality professional instruments, resources and props. Every class is a performance for your child with live singing from our highly skilled teachers. Everyone is encouraged to participate in class, joining in with the songs isn't hard- in fact it's quite infectious! Parents, grandparents and carers of Monkey Music are often seen humming the songs around the supermarket!

“These classes are amazing. My baby has enjoyed it since 12 weeks old and I'm convinced it has contributed to her love of all things tuneful and her excellent fine motor skills to mention a few perks. I love it too. I'm not really comfortable with groups of people this has been brilliant for my confidence too. We both have made some wonderful friends”

Our team run classes across South Wales. Check out our timetable below for details and to book a class. We also have classes available at our sister franchise in Vale & Bridgend. Your first class is free too!

Music plays an important role in early development of a child. Children are natural, instinctive music makers. As parents we naturally try to use music to sooth and calm children. Research has shown that music can aid all areas of child development. At Monkey Music our curriculum uses songs and activities that are carefully selected for each developmental stage. Learning to move to music, explore sounds and resources given to them, socialise with other babies and families, communicate effectively, develop their fine and gross motor skills though playing and dancing to music, listen to themselves and others, strengthen their memory and recall skills...the benefits of music are enormous. We offer sessions grouped according to age, ensuring a 'best fit' for your child. We teach the children the structure of our sessions right from the very first stage. There are five unique stages. Beautiful Noise, Rock'n'Roll, Heigh-Ho, Jiggety-Jig and Ding-Dong. I love to see the babies making their first visual tracking efforts and swatting at sounds. Delighting in instruments and props they have never seen or heard before. They progress to be explorers in Heigh-Ho and busy up on their feet. So much fun to be had before starting to prefer a more structured approach to their music making in Jiggety-Jig where they take turns, socialise with their peers and eagerly try to please and follow instructions. Many go on to complete the fourth stage in Ding-Dong, where they are prepared to play an instrument. They finish the final stage, Ding-Dong, being able to read crotchet, quavers and rests. Identify and try to play instruments of the orchestra, perform and compose on a variety of tuned and untuned percussion instruments. It really is quite amazing how quickly and how far they develop.

If you are unsure what stage your child needs or have any questions about our classes, please do get in touch. We very much look forward to welcoming you to our sessions.

About Me

I Started my career as a professional flautist and pianist. I studied flute, piano and composition at The Janacek Academy of Music in Brno, Czech Republic. After graduating from Royal Holloway University of London, in 2001, with a BMus(hons) degree, I came to Cardiff to study PGCE secondary music teaching which led to a very successful teaching career from 2001-2009. During this time, my two daughters were born. Maddison in 2007 and Lillia in 2008. As an educationalist I have always been interested in child development, particularly through music, and I was keen to use music with my own children to help with their own development. My teaching degree gave me experience of working with children from 3 years of age right up to 18 years but being able to attend music classes with my own babies, from such an early age, gave me more insight into how important the early years are. The fact that the Monkey Music curriculum follows the early years framework was a delight to discover and it is a pleasure to now be delivering this curriculum to children in the area both at venues and online. I opened Monkey Music Cardiff in 2017 and have been owner and teacher at Monkey Music Vale & Bridgend since 2008.

I first became familiar with Monkey Music classes when my first daughter, Maddison, was born in 2007. There were no other activities that could provide a tailored and structured curriculum especially for my baby that met her developmental needs at each stage. Her little face when she saw the instruments, the other babies in the class and the immediate engagement with the teacher made me sure Monkey Music was the best possible introduction to music for her. I have a very strong background in music and teaching myself which led me to investigate preschool music classes as soon as she was born. In the past there had been a lack of high standard children's musical activities in the area and it was very important for me to find the right class for her.

I wouldn't be able to run my sessions without my fantastic team of teachers and administrator. This highly skilled team dedicate so much time and effort into attending training courses, planning and refining their lessons to ensure each child gets the most they can from every session. They enjoy teaching the sessions as much as the families enjoy attending and it is a pleasure to introduce them to you. Please click meet the team to find out more.

We look forward to welcoming you to our Monkey Music Family!

The Monkey Team

Emma Loyns

I'm Emma and I am teacher and owner for Monkey Music Cardiff. I have had a career as a flautist, pianist and teacher and have taught Monkey Music sice 2008. I have two daughters who have outgrown Monkey Music now so I am very fortunate to be able to attend classes- as the teacher!

Emma Bloor

After attending Monkey Music with my 3 daughters, I became Monkey Music administrator in 2024. I couldn;t resist joining the teaching team in 2025, having enjoyed performing arts during earlier years. My favourite Monkey Music class is Jiggety-Jig, it amazes me just how clever toddlers are every day!

Viki Jones

I'm Viki and I'm mum to two beautiful children, both of whom attended Monkey Music classes. I enjoyed the classes so much that when the opportunity to become a Monkey Music teacher presented itself I jumped at the chance! I love creating a nurturing environment in my classes.

Can babies relate to music at such a young age? The ear is the first organ to develop fully in the womb. From five months, an unborn baby can hear the world around them. Early exposure to music encourages babies to develop their musical ear which supports all aspects of early learning and development.
Just as language skills are developed early in life, so is musical talent. Regardless of the level of music aptitude with which children are born, they must have formal and informal experiences in music to maintain that level of potential.
Can my partner and I both bring our baby to Beautiful Noise? Yes, Beautiful Noise is perfect for parents who attend on their own or with a partner.
How long is each Beautiful Noise face-to-face class or Beautiful Noise event? Each Beautiful Noise face-to-face class and Beautiful Noise event is an hour long. This gives everyone lots of time to settle/feed/change before Beautiful Noise begins and at the end before leaving.
Can I feed my baby during Beautiful Noise? Yes, of course. We understand that you will want to make yourself and your baby as comfortable as possible during Beautiful Noise and you may feed/change/sleep whenever you feel like it!
What happens if my baby sleeps all the way through Beautiful Noise? Beautiful Noise has been created so that you and Baby can share precious time together whilst enjoying it for mutual reasons and for different reasons. Our teachers understand that our youngest babies need their sleep so if your baby sleeps peacefully during Beautiful Noise then you will be encouraged to join in whilst they sleep close by.
How and when do I receive my Beautiful Noise online sessions? Our Beautiful Noise online sessions are sent via email to all members of our Beautiful Noise programmes and Beautiful Noise events after attendance at the face to face session and have been created so that you can practice at home what you and Baby have learned at Beautiful Noise.
What is in the Beautiful Noise Kit Bag? Inside the Beautiful Noise Kit Bag (a linen tote) you will find a Monkey Music wave drum, Monkey Music maracito and a sensory scarf. You will be encouraged to use these instruments and the sensory scarf at home when joining in with the online sessions.
What makes Monkey Music weekly classes so special? Monkey Music has been established for over 30 years and is proud to have a rich musical heritage. What do the weekly Monkey Music classes involve? Monkey Music is an interactive award winning musical curriculum. The regular weekly classes are small and tailor-made for babies and young children who are grouped according to their age. Each child is accompanied by their carer. Little ones sing, dance and play musical instruments. Grown ups join in the fun too!
How much does a class cost? The price for classes in the area you would like to attend is shown during the booking process and you can also ask at your local Monkey Music Office.
Can I try a class before I sign up to the monthly rolling subscription for weekly classes? Yes. You and your child are invited along for a free complimentary class when making an initial booking enquiry.
How does payment for weekly classes work? After your first free class your place at class is reserved for you for 2 working days from the date and time of the free class. If you go on to confirm your place, payment for your monthly rolling subscription for classes will be taken on the 1st working day of each month for the classes booked in that calendar month that are due for payment. Customers joining midway through a calendar month will be charged for the remainder of classes in that calendar month, save where you book to join for the last class of a month and in this case the amount you will pay when making the booking will include the cost for the classes in the next month when classes are offered. Customers booking during a holiday break prior to the start of a teaching period will pay for their first calendar month of classes when making their booking.
When do classes run? Regular classes run during class teaching periods (please check the timetable for the area you would like to attend classes, details of the sort breaks and holiday breaks will be listed there). Many areas also run seasonal Holiday Workshops and Events during the class break periods.
How many children are in a class? Places are limited and will vary from venue to venue. Our maximum capacity is 15 children per class.
Can I bring a newborn baby too? Babes in arms accompanying older siblings are welcome in our classes free of charge, please speak to your local classes for more information.
Can I catch up a missed class? Subject to eligibility and availability it may be possible to catch up a booked class that you have missed, please contact your local class provider for more details.
Can I swap my class to another day or time? Subject to eligibility and availability it may be possible to swap a booked class, please contact your local class provider for more details.
What do you expect of the children, do they have to sit down the whole time? Each class is carefully structured and formatted so that every child and carer is encouraged to join in with the fun. Classes are paced according to each age group with the opportunity for little ones to be up on their feet during ‘Time to Move’ and sitting with their carers during ‘Time to Play’ and ‘Time to Sleep’. Most children quickly learn what is happening next and Monkey helps them with friendly encouragement!
What do I need to bring with me? Everything you need to enjoy our classes is made available by the teacher, however, should you prefer not to use the Monkey Music instruments provided at class, you may bring your own Monkey Music approved instruments purchased from our online shop or identical items bought elsewhere. You may also bring along your own small blanket for your child to sit on.
Why are most of the Monkey Music classes 30 minutes long? Our classes have been honed and developed over 30 years and are designed to fully captivate babies and young children for the duration. Each 30 minute class is a significant step in our progressive curricula. Classes are carefully planned to maximise the attention span of a very young child so that they learn from sharing a rewarding, enjoyable and worthwhile experience. The very interactive nature of every class means that our little ones need to rest again after 30 minutes of magical music making!
Do you offer ‘mixed age’ classes? Because of the progressive nature of our curricula which is age specific, we do not offer regular weekly mixed age classes. However, during the holidays, many of our teachers offer mixed age holiday workshops and events.
Are all the teachers musically trained? All Monkey music teachers are specifically trained on delivering the Monkey Music curriculum. Many of them are professional musicians and teachers.
Do I have to be musical? No! Our teachers will make you feel welcome whatever your musical ability.
Do I have to sing along? We love it when families sing along and your children will benefit from hearing the sound of a familiar voice, no matter how good or bad! But – there is no pressure to sing because listening, watching and playing the instruments will keep you and your child busy enough! Families may enjoy our songs at home by purchasing our class specific playlists available from our online shop.
Can I bring an adult friend/relative to class? This is usually possible, but we do ask that you contact your local teacher to ask permission beforehand. This is because some of our teaching rooms have maximum levels of occupancy and our teachers need to know who is attending each session, thank you.
Can I opt out of the membership fee? No, our online club is designed to support the learning experience of children at our regular classes and is a popular go-to places between classes to enjoy making Monkey Music at home.
Is it OK for me to take photos or video in class? No, we politely request that you refrain from taking photos or videos at class.
Why don’t you offer drop-in classes? We value musical education as a fundamental part of early development, and as such our regular weekly classes are progressive to maximise the learning potential of each child.
