Welcome to our classes

Hi, I'm Sally and I'm so excited to be back with face to face Monkey Music classes! After loving taking my daughters to classes as babies and toddlers, it's so wonderful to be able to bring the magic to you! I'm so excited to be back in venues now, whilst ensuring all safety measures are in place. Your first class is free so book and join us today!!

After a very strange and unsettling time over the last few months, it's so lovely to be back running face to face classes, albeit still with many safety measures in place. We at Monkey Music have been working hard alongside our venues to ensure you feel as safe as possible to bring your babies and toddlers back to face to face classes. Every venue has different procedures and guidelines in place, but I will guide you through what is required in each venue such as wearing face coverings, and what you can and can't bring into the class.

Even though we must maintain our distance, and parents and teachers must wear face coverings (except in Rock'n'Roll classes due to you staying on the mats), we have adapted our lessons to ensure they are fit for purpose but still bring you and your child the wonderful, stimulating, and fun Monkey Music experience parents have grown to know and love over the past 27 years!

The feedback I received during lockdown whilst offering classes live online was amazing, and it's been wonderful to be able to provide you with an opportunity not only to share some precious time with your little one, watching them engage in the music of our classes, but also to have some live interaction with me, and other mummies and daddies for 30 minutes - a bit of escapism from all the craziness of COVID-19. It's so important during this time to keep our minds and bodies both physicially and mentally active and Monkey Music at Home has hopefully done this!

Getting back together face to face is our priority, but your safety is of utmost importance. When you join a class you will be sent information about how classes will be run to ensure social distancing is adhered to, and all the instruments, mats and everything we touch is kept sanitised.

Our Classes

Monkey Music runs a progressive curriculum in 4 different age categories so are built specifically for a baby or child’s development needs at that stage of their life. Most importantly, they are great fun for both you and your child! There are lots of opportunities for bonding with your little one as well as singing, movement and making music. The curriculum has been developed working closely with experts in education and child pschology, and the songs we sing are all original, written by the team at Monkey Music, with some recognisable nursery rhymes thrown in every now and then for good measure. If you're anything like me, you'll learn to love the Monkey Music songs and look forward to singing them with your little ones every week.

Rock'n'Roll For Babies aged 3 - 12 months

Our first stage of classes are just wonderful. We focus on gentle songs and fascinating sounds, instroducing simple rhythms and helping your little ones to develop through tracking sounds, exploring instruments, and feeling the beat of the music, listening to familiar songs and most importantly your voice!

Heigh-Ho for Toddlers aged 12 - 24 months

In our second stage, when your little ones are moving all over the place and exploring, we introduce catchy songs to them and upbeat tunes to keep them engaged! Your little ones are really enjoying making their own music and love recognising the familiar tunes and actions. Repetition is key to development and toddlers love dancing along to our weekly class songs

Jiggety-Jig for Toddlers aged 2 & 3

In Jiggety-Jig, our little ones are enjoying interacting with the other children in the class. As well as having lots of fun dancing to their favourite Monkey Music songs, and singing along, we introduce the fundamentals of a strong musical foundation, such as listening to each other, waiting their turn, and even composing their own masterpieces! There's much fun to be had with many props too!

Ding-Dong for 3 & 4 year olds

In our fourth and final stage of Monkey Music, our little ones are ready to start to learn to read music! We introduce this in a clever and simple way with the Kodaly method which uses visual aids to help introduce the concept of translating symbols into musical notes or direction. Our little ones start to compose their own rhythms and are also encouraged and supported to sing solos in class if they are comfortable to do so!

More About Me!

I have always been passionate about music and singing so I was keen to take my two daughters to Monkey Music classes when they were babies. It quickly became the highlight of our week so I jumped at the chance to launch a franchise and bring the joy of the classes to High Wycombe and Aylesbury! My eldest daughter has attended the entire curriculum, currently attending Ding Dong classes, and it’s been amazing to see how music plays a role in all aspects of her development; social, language and physical.

I have sung in various choirs for most of my life including the City of London Choir, and perform in amateur musical productions, having recently played the Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, and Mother Superior in Sister Act. This, combined with a keen interest in child development makes being a Monkey Music teacher a dream career!

Growing up in tune with Monkey Music!

The Monkey Team

Sally Williamson

Hi I'm Sally and I'm excited to be teaching the first classes in High Wycombe, Princes Risborough and Wendover.

Singing has been my passion ever since I can remember, having sung in choirs, a band, and taken part in musicals, so to find a job where I can sing is simply a dream come true!

As of 15 October 2020, how does the new 3 Tier alert level affect Monkey Music classes? Currently, all Monkey Music classes at Covid-secure venues across the UK remain open to adult carers who bring children who live in the same household or who are in the same bubble. We will continue to monitor the situation closely. Please contact your local classes if you have specific questions about Monkey Music classes in your area
What is your Health and Safety plan around Covid-19? Please see our Monkey Music Covid-19 Health and Safety plan here which details the measures we are putting in place to keep everyone safe at Monkey Music.
What do the classes involve? Monkey Music is an interactive award winning musical curriculum. Classes are small and tailor-made for babies and young children who are grouped according to their age. Each child is accompanied by their carer. Little ones sing, dance and play musical instruments. Grown ups join in the fun too!
Do you offer ‘mixed age’ classes? Because of the progressive nature of our curricula which is age specific, we do not offer regular weekly mixed classes. However, during the holidays, many of our teachers offer mixed age holiday workshops.
What do you expect of the children, do they have to sit down the whole time? Each class is carefully structured and formatted so that every child and carer is encouraged to join in with the fun. Classes are paced according to each age group with the opportunity for little ones to be up on their feet during ‘Time to Move’ and sitting with their carers during ‘Time to Play’ and ‘Time to Sleep’. Most children quickly learn what is happening next and Monkey helps them with friendly encouragement!
Why are Monkey Music classes 30 minutes long? Our classes have been honed and developed over 25 years and are designed to fully captivate babies and young children for the duration. The very interactive nature of every class means that our little monkeys need to rest again after 30 minutes of magical music making!
Why is Monkey Music more expensive than the other music groups around? Monkey Music has been established for over 25 years and is proud to have a rich musical heritage. We offer a unique and progressive learning experience for your child, which is supported by over 500 original songs and musical activities. Our talented teachers are carefully chosen and trained to offer the highest standard of pre-school music education.
What makes Monkey Music classes so special? Monkey Music classes are considered a leading light in pre-school education. Come along for a free class to see for yourself what make Monkey Music classes the highlight of the week for so many families across the UK!
What if I miss my usual class? During our transition back to classes due to Covid-19, should you miss a class, or your teacher is unable to teach, you will receive a link to a special Monkey Music class to join in at home. You may enjoy this class as many times as you would like to over the week! Please speak to your teacher for more details.
What do I need to bring with me? Everything you need to enjoy our classes is made available by the teacher, however, should you prefer not to use the Monkey Music instruments provided at class (these will have been freshly santised for each customer prior to use), you may bring your own Monkey Music approved instruments purchased from our online shop or identical items bought elsewhere. You may also bring along your own small blanket for your child to sit on.
Can I bring a newborn baby too? Babes in arms accompanying older siblings are welcome in our classes free of charge, please speak to your local classes for more information.
Why don’t you offer drop-in classes? We value musical education as a fundamental part of early development, and as such our regular weekly classes are progressive to maximise the learning potential of each child.
Do I have to be musical? No! Our teachers will make you feel welcome whatever your musical ability.
Do I have to sing along? We love it when our customers join in and your children benefit from hearing the sound of a familiar voice, no matter how good or bad! However, current Government Guidelines don't allow for sing-along activities so for the time being our classes are directed and sung by the teacher only. Customers may enjoy our songs at home by purchasing our class specific download albums or books - all available from our online shop.
Can I bring an adult friend/relative to class? Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 restrictions, we ask that only one adult accompanies the child/children to Monkey Music classes.
Can I opt out of the membership fee? No, our online club is designed to support the learning experience of children at our regular classes and is a popular go-to places between classes to enjoy making Monkey Music at home.
Is it OK for me to take photos or video in class? No, we politely request that you refrain from taking photos or videos at class.
Why pay a membership fee? When enrolling in Monkey Music for the first time, a child becomes a member of our online Monkey Music Club. New members receive a Welcome Pack, including a Monkey Music T-shirt, beautiful sticker pack and milestone card as well as access to our online club which supports the child in their learning experience at Monkey Music. The membership fee is payable when registering each child in regular weekly classes at Monkey Music and we offer a discount to siblings who join at any stage. Siblings receive their own welcome pack and T-shirt to wear to class. Ask your local classes for more details.

How much does a class cost? Please ask at your local Monkey Music Office.
Can I try a class before I sign up to a course? Yes. You and your child are invited along for a free complimentary class when making an initial booking enquiry.
At what age can my child start Monkey Music? From 3 months old.
How long is a class? Half an hour. Each 30 minute class is a significant step in our progressive curricula. Classes are carefully planned to maximise the attention span of a very young child so that they learn from sharing a rewarding, enjoyable and worthwhile experience.
Are all the teachers musically trained? All Monkey music teachers are specifically trained on delivering the Monkey Music curriculum. Many of them are professional musicians and teachers.
Are the classes different for each age group? Yes. Our curriculum is structured and progressive. Rock’n'Roll: from 3 months Heigh-Ho: from 12 months Jiggety-Jig: 2 + 3 year olds Ding-Dong: 3 + 4 year olds
Can babies relate to music at such a young age? The ear is the first organ to develop fully in the womb. From five months, an unborn baby can hear the world around them. Early exposure to music encourages babies to develop their musical ear which supports all aspects of early learning and development. Just as language skills are developed early in life, so is musical talent. Regardless of the level of music aptitude with which children are born, they must have formal and informal experiences in music to maintain that level of potential.
