Singing helps reading

My earliest memory of reading is listening to my mother singing whilst she pointed to pictures and words in my favourite book of nursery rhymes. As I got older, I read and sung with the book on my own.  I still have that precious book and it is the reason that we published our Monkey Music books.

Singing is a great way to learn because songs are a useful memory tool. We tend to remember things more easily when music is used and by singing songs with our children, we are supporting their early language development.

All our Monkey Music songs have been specially written to encourage maximum enjoyment and participation.  By joining in with simple songs and rhymes our children are developing their foundation for learning to read. The catchy Monkey Music tunes also help our children with their expressive language skills and long-term memory.

Singing is a whole brain work-out! The left side of the brain which is involved in verbal skills is working alongside the right-hand side of the brain which is involved in artistic, emotional and physical skills. This overlap of brain usage makes singing a very powerful learning experience.

Encourage your children to sing and sing-along together. It doesn’t matter what you think you sound like; your own singing is the best way to teach your child.

Our Monkey Music books and CDS/song downloads offer an activity which makes learning and reading fun. Either way, listening and reading or reading and singing, a great book is a very special friend!

This year we are celebrating our 30th birthday and over 3 million hours of classes across the UK. We are donating £1 for every book sold to our charity partner, Nordoff & Robbins. You may purchase our books in our shop at www.monkeymusic.co.uk. Each book comes with a CD and song downloads.
