Whether you coming to Monkey Music for the first time, or you are an old hand, it’s always a nice thing to think about how you can absolutely get the best out of your time with us.
Here are our “Top Tips”:
ARRIVAL
It’s so easy with little children for a schedule to go a bit haywire but if you possibly can, it’s a great idea to try and arrive 5 minutes early. This gives you time to breathe, make sure you are in the right place, catch up with friends and also for your child to feel comfortable in the venue, see all of the faces around them and get ready to enjoy their music.
WHAT TO BRING
You don’t need to bring anything – we have lovely clean mats to sit on, gorgeous percussion instruments that are age-appropriate and exciting props.
If you are coming to Rock’n’Roll for babies however, you may wish to bring a snuggly blanket for them to lay on.
MEETING NEW FRIENDS
If you are feeling shy (and believe, us, everyone feels shy at first. It’s just that some people are better are hiding it than others!), turn to the people either side of you, give them a smile and say “hello”.
And if you see someone who looks nervous, please break the ice – especially if you’ve been before – it’s such a relief when you are new to see friendly faces.
WHAT TO WEAR
Our venues are all nice and warm, clean and cosy so comfortable clothes that we can easily move in are best. If you have a child that is walking and you take off their shoes, please make sure they are wearing non-slip socks or tights if the floor is wooden so they don’t slip over.
JOINING IN
Your child and all the others in the group are looking to the grown ups around them to take the lead. Children learn by copying so the more you sing, dance and play, the more they will too.
If your child is sitting with their back to you, they will likely be facing another grown up and so we can help everyone’s children to learn about copying, joining in and learning through the wonders of music if we are all taking part with gusto.
Your teacher will be leading the singing beautifully so even if you think you can’t sing – don’t worry – only you and your child will be able to hear you and they LOVE to hear your voice.
AFTER CLASS
Lots of our venues have a café on site or nearby – get together with your group, go for coffee or take a walk together – lifelong friendships start at Monkey Music and we often hear back from families who are still in touch with one another many years after their time with us ends.
WHEN YOU GET HOME
